It’s been an officially a week since I first saw my empty booth.
And I just want to take a step back and acknowledge a milestone that has happened.
Having an Artist Alley booth and being on a panel has always been a dream of mine. The fact that I got to do both at 23 years old is insane to me. Not just 1, but 3 panels😭✨
All those days spent in my room drawing and watching movies, trying to write and create my own stories. It’s still feels so surreal. Coming from the Cape Flats, you feel like these kinds of opportunities won’t ever reach us. But yoh yoh yoh.
I’ve never really had other Art companionship or community or mentors I could look up to. So thank you to @morayrhoda ✨You’re probably the first mentor that I’ve met in person to encourage and inspire me so much. I always craved that guidance. So thank you for being such a kickass mentor.
@clydebeech and @therobinmoodley have too given me more drive and validation that I’m on the right path. Like, these guys have been creating and it’s time South Africa sees. I’m aiming to be a mangaka, storyboard artist and animation writer and director. I slowly see it forming. I almost lost that vision while I was at film school. Got so caught up in telling other peoples stories. But, now I feel like my kid self again.
I’ve made such amazing friends and connections. Met people who actually care to ask about my stories, art and why I do what I do. Thank you to everyone who stopped by my booth to have a chat and buy my art. Especially my manga. Y’all are the real ones🫶🏼 And to the artists I was able to meet✨Im so proud of everyone✨
