I love capturing the little elements that make your wedding unapologetically yours.
The shoes carefully picked for the occasion.
The wedding certificate waiting to be signed.
The cake you spent weeks choosing.
The decorations, flowers and personal touches that tell your story without saying a word.
These details are part of your story just as much as the big moments.
As a lifelong goth and alternative wedding photographer, I’m here for the goths, punks, metalheads and beautifully unconventional souls who want their wedding captured honestly, naturally and exactly as they are 🖤

🖤 Today is for the moms who stayed true to themselves. Goth mums, the rock mums, the punk mums, the metal moms who stayed true to themselves.
And of course the pet mums too.
Happy mother’s day to all of you. 🖤

🖤 Lou & Muz 🖤
I've known Lou & Muz for a while and so it was an absolute honour creating Lou's bouquet and all of the buttonholes for their wedding last September 😍
Lou envisioned the flowers to have a 'vintage' look and feel with a beautiful colour palette of burnt orange, burgundy and light green foliage. To soften I added in gorgeous antique pink Roses and Gypsophelia to add to the romantic vibe. Made with a mix of silk & dried flowers, meant that their flowers could be kept for long after their day 🥰
Thanks to Lou & Muz for letting me be a part of your wedding day!

So… who is Dark Devotion Images?
Well, it’s me – Rob. A lifelong goth has-been since my teens who never quite grew out of the eyeliner, loud boots or questionable music choices. I’ve lived a goth lifestyle for over 40 years (yes, that makes me feel ancient), and I moved from the West Midlands to Whitby back in 2016 because, honestly, where else would a goth go?
When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me behind the decks. I run regular alternative club nights here in Whitby with my wife (@alt_celebrant ) including Dark Souls, our charity night raising funds for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation. Music, community and subculture are huge parts of who I am.
And that’s exactly why Dark Devotion Images exists.
There are lots of “alternative photographers” out there, but let’s be honest, for many it’s become a buzzword. For me, it isn’t a trend or a marketing angle. It’s my life. It’s my culture. It’s the world I’ve lived in for decades.
So if you’re a goth, alt, punk, metalhead, oddball or beautifully unconventional soul searching for a photographer who actually gets it, you’re in the right place. I’m a goth wedding and lifestyle photographer in Whitby creating images for people who live differently, proudly and unapologetically.
If you’re looking for an alternative lifestyle photographer who genuinely understands your world, drop me a DM or call me on 07590 657418.
Let’s create something darkly beautiful together.

Kayleigh and Dan celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary on Halloween by having a vow renewal ceremony with a handfasting in Whitby. They held their ceremony and reception in the gardens of the Youth Hostel here in Whitby, with Whitby Abbey overseeing their day.
The gardens are home to a statue of the Whitby Wyrm (look it up online), and the ceremony and celebrations were attended by another known Whitby character Vlad Dracul lll, who had ‘crossed oceans of time…’ to be there with them having met the family in Whitby previously.
Kayleigh walked into the gardens with their daughter who stole the show and who was happy Vlad Dracul lll was there as he is her friend. Kayleigh looked beautiful as she braved the winds in her sleeveless purple wedding dress, while Dan, in all black, stood waiting for his Bride.
The ceremony was created and led by Celebrant Ellie from @alt_celebrant , and Kayleigh and Dan made their own handfasting cords. They placed a smaller version on their daughter’s wrist during the ceremony, and the family poured three lots of sand from the three beaches locally into a Whitby Gin bottle, which once contained their Demeter Gin, the name of the ship which brought Dracula to Whitby in Bram Stoker’s novel. On the bottle is an ammonite shape, which was imprinted in the sand on the table during their sand ceremony.
A friend read a personalised poem she had written for them, and their guests were ready to congratulate them on their handfasting. After the ceremony, there was a black cake with pumpkins and food to celebrate. Their décor was Halloween inspired to commemorate their Halloween ceremony. With many props supplied for their guests to use, including everyone wearing vampire teeth for a group image.
Congratulations, Kayleigh and Dan, I hope you had a fangtastic day.
