Alexander Glazunov's Rêverie, Op. 24, is one of my all time favorite recital filler pieces. I first heard it the summer before my freshman year at Indiana University, and fell in love immediately.
I only recently learned that Glazunov actually studied the horn (in addition to many other instruments), and that there is some discrepancy about whether the last note should be hand stopped or open. Alas, to find out which one I chose, you'll have to watch the full video on my YouTube channel (link in bio).

Ravel - Piano Concerto in G
I often find it challenging to manage my physical and mental energy before this solo. For me, it's easy to get over-energized and anxious in this context. Slow deep breaths through my nose, and the awareness of the feeling of the chair and the ground supporting my weight, help me to calm the physical. Imagining the feeling of resonating with absolute efficiency and floating on a cushion of productive tension-free resistance helps me to change how I feel in the measures leading up to the entrance. Ideally, then I'm free to listen, respond to, and lead the music around me.

The Ballet Pit Cam is a bare-bones phone camera recording of what it actually sounds and feels like around us in the pit at NYC Ballet.
In this particular season, we had a rigorous schedule of 8-9 shows a week, on top of rehearsals. The repertoire included horn solos from Ravel's Piano Concerto in G, Pavane, Mozart Divertimento 15, Rosenkavalier, Fairy's Kiss, excerpts from Mahler 1, Brandenburg, Midsummer Night's Dream, Scotch Symphony, Stravinsky's Symphony in 3 movements, and Stravinsky Violin Concerto, among other pieces. So it was nice to occasionally have an Assistant, as you'll see/hear in this recording.

I knew I wanted to arrange and perform "Melody" by Myroslav Skoryk the first time I heard it. Regrettably, this first listening was at the start of the ongoing Ukraine invasion in 2022. The piece is born from folk melodies from that region and was composed for the 1982 Soviet war film, "Vysokyy pereval." Today, "Melody" continues to be an anthem for Ukraine.
