Weâre reminiscing on âRomeo and Julietâ after an unforgettable closing weekend. â
â Hereâs a glimpse at the process for our set build, thanks to @adirondackstudios !â
â
For this world premiere production by Resident Choreographer Juliano Nunes, Philadelphia Ballet commissioned ADKS to realize Youssef Hotait's scenic design in the fabrication of a 10'x13'x2'6" freestanding book, which opens to reveal five custom painted pages (including the ones in this video). The book is designed to be viewed closed as well as opened, and one cover features a mirrored surface. Dancers open the pages to change the scene and further the story.â
â
ADKS configured the engineering of the book structure to be freestanding when it's in its open position and to be easily moved onstage. The goal was to provide the maximum visual impact while also ensuring complete stability. In addition to the book, ADKS' upstate NY team painted a custom drop to disguise select scene changes and fabricated, covered and painted two platforms, one serving as a crypt slab and the other as a bed.â

A big round of applause for the ADKS design, production and project delivery teams!
