We’re reminiscing on ‘Romeo and Juliet’ after an unforgettable closing weekend. Here’s a glimpse at the process for our set build, thanks to @adirondackstudios ! For this world premiere production by Resident Choreographer Juliano Nunes, Philadelphia Ballet commissioned ADKS to realize Youssef Hotait's scenic design in the fabrication of a 10'x13'x2'6" freestanding book, which opens to reveal five custom painted pages (including the ones in this video). The book is designed to be viewed closed as well as opened, and one cover features a mirrored surface. Dancers open the pages to change the scene and further the story. ADKS configured the engineering of the book structure to be freestanding when it's in its open position and to be easily moved onstage. The goal was to provide the maximum visual impact while also ensuring complete stability. In addition to the book, ADKS' upstate NY team painted a custom drop to disguise select scene changes and fabricated, covered and painted two platforms, one serving as a crypt slab and the other as a bed. A big round of applause for the ADKS design, production and project delivery teams!

After 33 remarkable years with Philadelphia Ballet, Beatrice Jona Affron will transition at the end of this season to join New York City Ballet as Associate Music Director. Please join us in congratulating Beatrice on this exciting new role as we celebrate her extraordinary legacy. During her tenure, Beatrice played a defining role in shaping our musical identity and building lasting artistic partnerships with the Orchestra, dancers, and audiences. She also established the Philadelphia Ballet Orchestra Apprentice Program to support emerging talent. We are thrilled that Beatrice will return to Philadelphia in October to conduct Stars and Stripes Forever!, as well as the final week of George Balanchine’s The NutcrackerÂź in December. From mentoring young musicians to conducting countless unforgettable performances, Beatrice’s impact on Philadelphia Ballet and generations of artists and audiences will continue to resonate for years to come. We are deeply grateful for her artistry, leadership, and dedication. Read more at the article by Peter Dobrin, linked in our bio. đŸ“·: 1. Alexander Iziliaev 2.
