In the video works, this is articulated through repeated actions – washing hair in water, painting nails, moving through the landscape. These are familiar gestures of self-care, frame the forest as a sanctuary. Moving beyond the search for paternal acceptance explored in previous projects, the artist finds radical self-care in the monstrous. The slang expression ‘viad0’, derived from the word ‘vead0’ meaning ‘deer’ in Brazilian Portuguese, is used to label men who are gay or perceived as insufficiently masculine. It functions as a pervasive derogatory term that has long served to police gender norms and continues to marginalise those who do not conform to dominant constructions of masculinity. VIAD0 presents video performance and photography, through which Zocatelli highlights a tension between self-expression and social perception, where authenticity in identity may be read by others as excessive or “monstrous”. This raises questions about how non-normative identities are judged and the extent to which conformity is expected. He engages with these concerns through narratives centred on himself and, more broadly, the queer community. Naquele dia a câmera tinha sede de imagem. As ondas batiam forte contra as pedras, o mar trazia coisas ate a margem. restos, presentes, não sei. Sem pressa. Entrou nas águas frias de março. e mergulhou. Por um momento, parecia resposta.

Ainda entendendo tudo o que aconteceu nesse período e já ansioso para trazer Querido Pai para São Paulo e muitos outros festivais! Muito obrigado a todos que fizeram parte dessa caminhada, aos que me ajudaram a produzir o projeto, aos que o trouxeram até aqui, e ao público que o recebeu de braços abertos e choro de alegria do rosto.
