Help us wish a SUPER HAPPY BIRTHDAY to a longtime member of the Adorama family, model extraordinaire @marisa.roper ! 🥳 😊 💙   Marisa has been a huge part of our AdoramaTV YouTube videos going all the way back to 2016 now, and we didn’t count, but she must have been in HUNDREDS of our videos (bonus points if you can find the exact number! 😅), always with that same incredible and beautiful smile and energy 😊   Thank you so much Marisa and hope you have a great birthday!   (Oh, and she’s actually the model for our livestream tonight with Daniel, so make sure to tune in and wish her a happy birthday in the chat! 🥰)   📸 all of these incredible photos are from @danielnorton , except for the zombie wedding one which was shot by @joemcnallyphoto , and those last two amazing black-and-white ones which were shot by Seth Miranda @lastxwitness

Film photography is not dead 🥰💙🎞️ ICYMI, we launched a really exciting project recently where we gave film cameras to local high school students and taught them the process of how to shoot and develop film from start-to-finish. The project was led by our own Daniel Norton, whose high school teacher helped inspire him to become a professional photographer. We partnered with our friends at @pentax_us to lend Pentax 17 cameras to the photography class at Oyster Bay High School in NY and have the students go out and try film photography for the very first time. “The goal was to introduce students, already fluent in digital photography, to the tactile nature of analog image-making. That meant shooting, developing, and printing their own film. Since the school didn’t have a darkroom, we had to create a temporary workspace that allowed students to experience the full process firsthand.” 📸 If you want to learn more about the whole event, we have a great brand-new Adorama 42West article from Jacqueline Tobin going into more detail about everything, so either click the link in our bio or comment the word “Link” and we can DM you the full link to the article! “For students raised in a digital world, the workshop offered something rare: a chance to slow down, engage fully with the process, and discover the quiet magic of photography, one frame at a time.” - @jacqueline.tobin / Huge thank you again to everyone who helped make this happen! 😊 @danielnorton @lastxwitness @pentax_us @pentax.film.photography obencsd @oben_fine_performing_media_art @oysterbaymhs Hope to do many more of these in the future! 🥰 #filmphotography #analogphotography #photograhylovers #filmcamera #filmphotograph

Swipe for some absolutely beautiful photos from @danielnorton 💙   Daniel was able to try out the Leica M11 Monochrom camera for a month, and he came away with these stunning photos of @marisa.roper and some spots around NY. These are all part of a brand-new Adorama 42West blog article that Daniel wrote titled “Leica M11 Monochrom, A Month of Black and White” where he talks about his experience using this incredibly unique camera, how shooting with a camera like this can change the way you approach your photography, and much more.   If you want to see more incredible photos like these and learn more about how Daniel captured them, either click the link in our bio to read the full article or comment the word “LINK” and we’ll DM it you!   “When we work in black and white, whether it be with film, a digital camera that can shoot color, or the Leica M11 Monochrom, we think in pure light and shadow. Textures become our friend, and the mundane often takes on enormous weight.”   “My style of black and white shooting leans heavily into contrast, and being able to embrace it was very freeing. Knowing that the camera could not only handle the range, but that the noise would be nearly non-existent, made shooting what I saw, what I felt, easy.”   📸 Also, in case you’re not familiar with our 42West blog, we’ve got thousands and thousands of great articles on photography, lighting, filmmaking, tech, computers, and much, more. Daniel is actually the new Editorial Director of the blog, and he’s making sure we have new articles and guides being published daily, with tips for someone just picking up their first camera all the way to the most seasoned pro.    And if you’re interested, we might do a quick new weekly series with Daniel where he gives his Editor’s Picks for the best 42West blog articles for different niches (e.g. “Top 5 Articles on Wedding Photography”, “Top 5 Articles on On-Camera Flash”, etc), so if you think that would be helpful, just let us know in the comments!   And if you want the link to the full Leica M11 Monocrom article, comment the word “LINK” and check your DM’s! 😊 . . . #leica #leicam11 #leicam11monochrom #shotonleica #leicacamera

Why shoot with a monochrome camera? 📸   We’ve got a new 42West blog article out from @danielnorton where he talks about his experience using the new Leica Q3 Monochrom camera and why specifically you might want to use a black-and-white camera. Even if you’re not in the market for a new camera, it’s a fascinating article about shooting in black-and-white and what things you gain (and lose) with a monochrome camera.    Comment the word “LEICA” and we’ll automatically DM you a link to read Daniel’s full article! (~ about a 2-3 minute read)   “Ok, let’s get to the meat of this conversation. This camera is not for everyone. It is for those of us who want to dig deep into shooting Monochrom. Perhaps you want to live in a world where light and shadow tell the stories. Where dark blacks, rich greys, and punchy whites draw your viewer into the frame. Where the Neon (ok LED, but I’m being dramatic) lights of the city are not stealing the show when what you really want to show is the woman shaking the rain from her umbrella as she enters the tenement. Perhaps the lush greens, or even vibrant fall colors that can easily draw a viewer in, can be replaced with rich tones, texture, broken branches, scarred trunks, and rough grass that looks like you could reach in and touch it.” “I was impressed by the ease of use of the Q3, the simple elegance I have always loved in Leica cameras. The versatility of the tilt screen. The macro mode, the super-fast lens. This beauty felt heavy enough in my hand, and light enough slung over my shoulder as I walked around for a day, capturing the contrast and light. Capturing the world around me in a different way.” Comment “LEICA” below and we’ll DM you the link to the article! And if you have any questions about the camera or shooting in black-and-white in general, ask them below and Daniel will do his best to help you out! . . . #leica #leicaq3 #leicaq3monochrom #blackandwhitephotography
