A couple of years ago, I designed a logo for my Foundscape Orchestra project, with the concept that the logo had to feel like a soundwave moving through a space, kind of like WOOOSHHH!!! from left to right.
I carried out this concept rudimentary, by making the first letters of the logo thinner, and gradually adding thickness to the letters, so the last letters would be thickest. While using the font I found out that the subtle effect would disappear when the font would be used in a small size.
So I decided to call in the help of a professional, my brother Ruben Maalman, illustrator, designer and artist (check out his stuff! @rubenmaalman ). He came up with an innovative way to tackle the problem. He designed the letters from scratch, using a moiré pattern for each letter, with small lines closer and closer together, making sure that with this system, the effect would be maintained in any size, even when using it as a vector font.

Experience NS Station Roosendaal in a completely different way. Come and listen to the station as it is transformed into a living audiovisual composition.
During the evenings of April 24 and 25, visitors can book a 30-minute time slot via the link (in bio) and enter NS Station Roosendaal, where part of the trainstation will be transformed into an immersive audiovisual experience. Moving through the space, visitors encounter a live performance in which the station itself is played as an instrument by a collection of sound sculptures, mechanical instruments and a live mix of field recordings that were made on location by guest artist Marieke van de Ven.

Erfgoedspektakel Brabant op NS-station Roosendaal
Op 24 en 25 april verandert Foundscape Orchestra de leegstaande voormalige wachtruimtes van het NS-station Roosendaal in een unieke audiovisuele ervaring. Met een mechanisch orkest van klanksculpturen en zelfontwikkelde instrumenten worden treingeluiden getransformeerd tot een muziekstuk.
Op vrijdagavond 24 en zaterdagavond 25 april start tussen 20:00 en 22:00 uur start elk half uur een show. Er is per voorstelling ruimte voor maximaal 50 bezoekers.
De Klankexpedities vinden plaats links naast de hoofdingang van het NS Station Roosendaal. Voor de shows is reserveren verplicht. Een kaartje kost € 9,50 en € 7,50 voor deelnemers van de VriendenLoterij. De voorstelling is minder geschikt voor kinderen onder de 10 jaar.

We took the whole operation to this unique building in Schiedam with multiple floors and several rooms, and gigantic soda silos and developed a meandering experience for people to immersive themselves in.
The audience could walk around and discover the former soda factory and listen to all the nooks and crannies this building had to offer...
We played the Sodafabriek with our team Jaap Mutter @jaaptojo , Jasper Schütz @actodisko , and Daniel Maalman @danielmaalman and guest musicians Invisible Ralf @ralf_invisible and Görkem Arikan @arikangorkem

Here are some first glances from our Foundscape adventures in Sodafabriek Schiedam, last November!
We transformed this unique building into an instrument and performed six shows with during the weekend.

Looking back on an intense but fantastic week of building, performing and a lot of experiments in the epic (and cold) Biesboschhal in Dordrecht. We tried new things that weren’t possible before in other locations, and ran into technical issues that forced us to improvise, but learned a lot!
In the end we performed two of the most interesting shows until now, with the help of guest musicians Amit Palgi and Matteo Traverso. We recorded everything, filmed everything with the help of Adriaan Augustijn, scanned the building with the help of Lodewijk Luijt, and we will develop all the materials we harvested into something special in the near future…
This was the last location we Foundscaped in 2025, but we are already making plans for new shows in 2026, after a little winter break! Thanks so much to everyone who helped making these exhibitionperformanceinstallationconcertcontraptions into an epic success, (building team @jazzastrop , @patrickmouilleron , @mischadaams and audience guides @nandi.enthoven , Maru van Donselaar en Tom Scholte) and we are looking forward to new adventures next year!
