For decades, Gloria Steinem has hosted Talking Circles in her living room. She’s always said, “we produce oxytocin when we connect in person. We don’t experience empathy in the same way unless all five senses are engaged.” She’s right. Our brains are wired for this. When we gather in person…listening, laughing, crying, sharing…oxytocin flows. Trust builds faster. We leave feeling more seen, soothed, and connected than we ever could through a screen. Oxytocin is sometimes called the “love hormone.” It’s what runs through a woman’s body during birth. It bonds us. My favorite fact is we don’t just feel it when we’re kind…we feel it even when we witness kindness. I love the internet, but it’s often a place of high communication, low connection. Talking Circles are the opposite—HIGH connection. They remind us that nothing replaces being in a room together, engaging all five senses, and finding real solutions side by side. This one, on women’s health, felt both ancient and brand new. Big thanks to my wonderful, passionate, solution oriented cohost @its_alextaylor and the brilliant + kind @apbenven for her wonderful words in the @nytimes .

Who knew making a sandwich could spark so many interpretations? 🥪 Like the rest of the internet, we can’t stop thinking about the honesty and vulnerability in @BelleBurden ’s memoir Strangers. Hear Belle share more about the stories behind the book on this week’s episode of Bookmarked, the Reese’s Book Club podcast. New episodes drop every Tuesday.

When her son Hersh Goldberg-Polin was taken hostage on October 7 and killed in captivity 330 days later, Rachel became a voice of courage and humanity for millions around the world. “Usually in life, when we really love people, we say ‘I would do anything for you’ but we very rarely have to.” @bring.hersh.home

If you’ve ever asked Google or Claude “what should I do with my life?” or “what is my purpose?” at 2am ... this one’s for you. @suzywelch teaches the most requested course at NYU called Becoming You. She also runs 3-day sessions for adults who sign up. I took her 3-day course after interviewing her and reading her book was so blown away I asked to throw an event with her to bring it to more people. The results were stunning. The number of people who left genuinely shifted by her work was so exciting…they felt what I had felt taking her course! After having an esteemed career as a business reporter and becoming the editor of the Harvard Business Review, Suzy went back to school to get her Phd and has built the Values Bridge: a system that identifies your 15 core values in order, and shows you exactly where you’re living outside of them. So many of those existential questions that feel unanswerable get answered by her methodology. I tried but my IG slides don’t do her work justice! If you’re curious you can take her values bridge test at home: / or grab her book (I think it’s the best gift for someone out of college or going through a transitional phase) and of course sign up for her 3-day seminar!
