Great to be visiting schools and meeting members in the Wirral today. I also had the privilege of hearing from young people about what they want their education system to look like. The clear message was more time spent in nature and less pressure from SATs. Wirral NEU achieved its largest-ever turnout in the indicative ballot, and preparations are now underway for the formal ballot on 3rd October. Schools here cannot take any more cuts. We move. #SaveEducation

You don't create a "Stronger Fairer Britain" whilst cutting school budgets....

It is tragic that we are in this position and under a Labour government. I have yet to meet an educator who believes things have improved since the general election. Another unfunded pay award would push many schools to breaking point. That is why our formal strike ballot to #SaveEducation opens on 3 October. .uk/latest/press-releases/neu-launch-formal-ballot-strike-action?fbclid=IwdGRjcARsL0lleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZAwzNTA2ODU1MzE3MjgAAR6cGRbxv3T2W5A96JVjprIPjOxStoYsQNL5-qCTKWHJthuVLOVn08fmO6AHMg_aem_4yRJ-XKGrG5uHHhyXmL6NQ

Enough is enough. Today the National Education Union has put this government on notice. Our national executive voted to open formal ballots for strike action over pay and funding on 3 October. No educator wants to strike. The government must deliver the properly funded education system our children and young people deserve. It's time to #SaveEducation

Unless any pay award is both above inflation and fully funded, it’s hard to see any outcome other than strike action. The National Executive meet next week, and it's my view we have no alternative than to move to a formal ballot. An unfunded, below inflation pay award - when inflation is expected to hit 6% - will take our schools from crisis to collapse. This isn't a dress rehearsal. We must do all we can to #SaveEducation /article/a075ec12-28cb-4484-9470-53d4e275d471?shareToken=0ed83aaf641eaa969cca993d7cb253be

Great to spend May Day with reps across Yorkshire and Humber. Have been in Hull and Leeds. Our reps are the most important people in the NEU, they are the heart of our union. Every day they stand up for colleagues, for students, and for the future of education. Their dedication is what makes our union strong. We know the fight ahead: we must save education and win the school funding our children deserve. Solidarity this May Day ✊

Been giving evidence at the Education Selecf Committee today. SEND Training is important. But the £200m budget equates to £264 per teacher. Training alone wont lead to more inclusive schools. Teachers need smaller class sizes, additional support and time to implement what they learn.
