āIāve never really had a job like this before, like a - REAL job.ā
In the span of a week following another beautiful summer with the ASCTC, I went from returning to the NYC grind to flying out to Bangor, Maine for my first post-grad, big boy, āyou are an actor, would you like to act for usā job.
The Penobscot Theatre Company introduced me to so much - the heart-buried-under-your-sleeve brilliance of
@carterscotthorton , the empathetic terror of Jenny Hart, the actual artistic genius of
@jonathanberry2550 , and the countless other incredible artists of PTC who made Clarkston such a life-affirming story.
A character both like and nothing like myself, Jake Baumgartner-Pepperdine showed me that just because you havenāt done anything that will end up in a history book, doesnāt mean you havenāt done anything worthwhile. Most of us wonāt end up remembered like Lewis & Clark (phew), but all we really need to do is be there for each other. āThere are different ways to contribute to society,ā and sometimes all that means is sitting on a curb with a lost soul so that they feel a little less alone.
Plus, I got to explore Acadia National Park in the autumn with my boogy, and my whole beautiful family came up to support me after a long absence from the stage. None of these people had to show up for me, but they did.
Moments like this can be few and far between, but Iām filled with nothing but gratitude for Bangor, my cast and crew at PTC, my loved ones, and ādelightfully delicateā Jake. 6 weeks was too short, but exactly what was needed.
I also nearly dislocated my shoulder from falling down stairs thanks to putting on pajama pants wrong, but I have no pics of that.
