Wrote it on the first day arriving back in Wuhan for the first time in four years.
The city after the pandemic, a brand new autopilot car, an estranged dad who’s trying on the father role for the first time in his life and the epiphany at last that mom’s really gone, for good.
The story told itself and there was no need to wrestle it out. Hashed out a demo overnight in my room with dissonant strings and reversed pianos, then recorded the vocals the following morning right before leaving for Tianmen to visit the graveyard and face the inevitable.
I had the absolute pleasure of travelling to Vienna and being in the studio for the first time, working with the brilliant @sam_irl__ , who added the sparks that the song wanted, did wonders to these demo vocals, and saw the song through with mixing and mastering. The song got its best chance in your caring hands! And a big shout out to @nico_sierig for elevating the string arrangement and bringing it to life!
