Two years ago today, my high school best friend of 32 years passed. To commemorate his life, I got some of the apple pies from ALDI he often shared with me.
Living with bipolar, I was concerned about how his death would affect my mental health. Fortunately, I was able to move back to Adelaide, a city I’ve always thrived in. My mental health remains stable.
One consequence of his death was I inherited Ned Kitty. We comforted each other through our grief and now he sits next to me as I read and write, and he sleeps next to me each night.

16.4kg Down: The Mindset Shift That Made All the Difference 💪
It’s official! According to @myfitnesspal , I’ve hit a major milestone, losing a total of 16.4kg as of this morning. I’m especially happy with this result, given that it’s on the back of an 8-day trip—those hotel buffet breakfasts are a real test!
What truly made the difference wasn’t just a diet, it was a change in perspective. I stopped viewing myself as someone “trying to lose weight” and started seeing myself as an athlete.
With that mindset, I set a clear training goal: to beat my time in the 12km (half marathon) 2025 Adelaide City to Bay on September 21st. That goal has fueled my training and my nutrition choices, leading to results like this one.
It proves that focusing on what your body can do instead of what it can’t eat is a game-changer. The body will follow the mind’s lead.
