Name: Daniel Bekken
Nationality: Norwegian
Discipline: Communication Design
MY DESIGN BACKPACK:
With a bachelor’s in Visual Communication and years as a design freelancer, I’m excited about combining my visual craft with co-design approaches. I’m passionate about exploring ways of making designs that are both beautiful, functional and inclusive to everyone—whether you have a disability or are neurodivergent.
WHY DESIGN FOR PEOPLE:
I’ve always been passionate about how we can create better societies and communities. I wanted to learn how to truly understand people’s needs so I can design solutions that make a real difference in their lives—all while learning alongside a diverse, passionate community of students from around the world.
If you’ve been living in Bergen, there is a chance you might have seen the catalogs I designed for Bergen’s best cinema @cinemateket_bergen . It’s filled with great text written by the staff at CiB that will expose you to contemporary and classic film gems and lots of nerdy details. While working on the catalog I’ve always been amazed by the incredible collection of movies they screen every month. Go to Cinemateket i Bergen and support a passionate independent cinema! 🎥
Working on these covers for @fredriksvabo was a lot of fun! Three of them was originally made 4-5 years ago, so it is really satisfying to finally see them out in the world. Check out Fredrik’s album, it is a beautiful piece that I truly love. A mix of musical references and melancholic moments that I’ve tried to capture in a visual universe. First picture is the album artwork, the others are single covers.
The day is finally here! Me and the rest of @happydieyoung just released our debut album: DEATH POP! It’s a piece of work that I’m very proud of. For me it has always been a project where I’ve been allowed to combine visual and musical interests. Creating the visual identity of this projects has been difficult, but rewarding. I have been able to learn so much by being able to work with this as an art project where I’ve had the space to take risks and experiment. It’s a big day for me and I hope you’ll have a listen!
