You might have already noticed this as we have been flagging the pink beauties around: we published a book! SAD SONGS is an ongoing series by Daniela Schwabe, initially started in 2018 by a request from a friend to capture his new album’s music in little paintings and grown into an autonomous project since. Each SAD SONG is a miniature, hyperrealistic painting on a 10 x 10 cm wooden panel, made with solely black and white oil paint. All works are based on actual photos, either from Schwabe’s own archive or images she came across in media. “It became a natural and immediate way for me to transform images that intrigue or move me into paintings. As someone who listens to music constantly while painting, I decided to merge the two. Each SAD SONG connects to a track that recurs on my studio playlists, its title often drawn directly from a lyric.” The miniature paintings function as visual snapshots of our collective memory; poetic references to moments that define our lives. All 60 autonomous SAD SONGS by Daniela Schwabe are now captured under one pretty pink roof. The book is for sale at the gallery, you can also order it online via our website or here, by sending a DM. SAD SONGS is printed in an edition of 60 + 6AP and costs €25.

Only two more chances to hear Arnon Grunberg read his story from the suitcase before it disappears forever into a private collection. Wednesday, Oct 15 at 12:00 Thursday, Oct 16 at 15:00 The suitcase, once broken, now transformed, contains objects from Arnon’s travels and painted impressions of intangible memories by Daniela Schwabe. A single printed copy of the story, designed by Irma Boom, rests inside. These final readings take place in the greenhouse at Eenwerk, following the rhythm of monastic prayer. Sommige van mijn verhalen laat ik in een beperkte oplage drukken, sommige boeken laat mijn uitgever talloze keren herdrukken, maar dit verhaal heeft een oplage van slechts één exemplaar en is typografisch verzorgd door @irma_boom_amsterdam . Het hoort bij mijn koffer die, helaas, stuk is gegaan. Gelukkig transformeerde @danielaschwabe deze koffer tot een kunstwerk over mijn leven – en ook een beetje van Alyosha, van hem zit een tekening in de koffer. U kunt binnenkort dit deel van mijn leven de bij de galerie treffen. Het verhaal lees ik tussen 10 en 16 oktober enkele keren voor tijdens de vaste gebedstijden, opdat zij die de koffer niet hebben weten te bemachtigen de tekst kunnen toch horen. Telefoons moet vooral worden ingeleverd. Opnames zijn strikt verboden. Meer over de momenten waarop ik het verhaal voorlees vindt u via de link in mijn bio. Overigens, indien u van mijn boeken af wilt omdat u ze inmiddels wel kent en ook aan de buurvrouw met een voorliefde voor vogels en geiten heeft voorgelezen: tot en met donderdagochtend is het mogelijk om kosteloos - ‘gratis’ is uit de mode - delen van mijn oeuvre bij mij af te leveren. Invitation HALF-KAPUTT Arnon Grunberg & Daniela Schwabe Opening: Friday October 10, 2025 at 17:00 Exhibition: October 10–16 at Eenwerk, Amsterdam A half-broken suitcase, once dragged around the world by a half-broken writer, became the starting point for a story about memory and transformation. The suitcase now holds traces of a life on the move: objects from Arnon’s travels, accompanied by painted memories that speak to what lingers when the journey ends. Together, they form a portrait of what we carry with us, both visible and unseen. In response to the suitcase, Arnon Grunberg wrote an intimate and poetic story. Daniela Schwabe transformed the suitcase into an art object and added painted impressions of intangible memories. Designer Irma Boom created a single printed copy of the story, which now rests inside the suitcase. From October 10–16, Arnon will read the story live each day in the greenhouse at Eenwerk, following the rhythm of monastic prayer hours.
