Tuesday, March 31! Join us in the PRS Library for the relational projects of Christina Marie Karr featuring Walking Dove, Pink Dolphins and Christy’s Keys.
For one evening at the Philosophical Research Society, Christina Marie Karr assembles Sonic Decreations — three collaborative projects exploring sound as presence, exchange, and a practice of tender erasure.
Invoking Simone Weil’s notion of decreation — the consensual undoing of the self, not as a form of destruction, but as a loving act of making space for what is real to enter — this program gathers a triptych of distinct musical constellations into a single, continuous field.
Walking Dove (with Daniela Gesundheit), Pink Dolphins (with Lillian Doyle), and Christy’s Keys (with Dakota Blue) each inhabit distinct sonic pastures, yet are united in a devotion to awareness over control, reciprocity over assertion, and equanimity over attachment. Voice, breath, keys, guitar, and electronics move through attentive relational space, where individual gesture dissolves and listening becomes central.Improvised yet intentional, spacious yet embodied, the works invite a gentle relinquishing of center.
The evening unfolds as an atmospheric contemplation : What emerges when a performance melts into a practice of attunement? What arrives when we allow ourselves to recede, thin, and diffuse?Sonic Decreations is an immersive rehearsal in attention: a study in softness, transparency, and the delicate deliberations of surrender among collaborators.

Hi Friends,
How are you holding up?
It has been five years since Alphabet of Wrongdoing first emerged digitally.
It’s heartbreaking how the pieces on this album, reimagined ancient Jewish penitential prayers exploring collective grief, culpability, and forgiveness, seem to sing themselves louder and louder in my ear as each day passes. The texts and melodies have a bravado and brokenness all at once, as though the songs themselves are stunned by the act of being sung under such ominous skies.
Love and gloom, that’s the dance right now, is it not?
Leaning into love, here is a way to be together.
Love,
Daniela

Healing Force of the Universe as an aquarium classroom yesterday for the Whale Song workshop with @danielasarah and @pinkdolphins.web was amazing… it went… swimmingly 🐋
Whale Song: a Workshop + @pinkdolphins.web at @healingforcerecords PASADENA, CALIFORNIA
… a watery encounter in two parts… How our world is hurting. It’s time to consult our marine mammal maestros. It always has been time, it always will be time. Especially after Los Angeles’s death dance with flames, we need to remember and re-encounter water, to learn from its inhabitants.
The cool blue underwater feeling of Healing Force is the perfect stand-in ocean basin for a day-into-night of apprenticing ourselves to the largest broadcasting mammals on the planet— humpback whales. As humpbacks simulcast their continuous composition, they listen attentively to their peers, incorporating the innovations that they hear around them into their shared, living song. Musicians especially geek out on what humpbacks are up to once they are privy. In this moment when deep, attuned listening is at a premium, what might we learn about group identity, leaderless collaboration, innovation, and empathy from these marine masters?
Whale Song: a Workshop is a response to and continuation of a decade of affectionate correspondence and collaboration I have fostered with beloved bioacoustics researcher Katy Payne (Songs of the Humpback Whale). A trained musician, Katy listened to thousands of hours of recordings of humpback whale song and found form where others heard noise. With @pinkdolphins.web as our sonic guardians (electroacoustic improvisation duo Christina Marie Karr @ouecha + Lillian Doyle using keys and flutes to generate pre and post apocalyptic aural environments), we will listen and vocalize together as we recreate a primary experience of the compositional techniques and structures at play in the humpbacks’ complex song. All ages, all voices welcome.

My mother Susan (Susie, Sooz) passed away November 24, 2023 suddenly and unexpectedly from a massive brain hemorrhage.
Susie was an artist, a goof, a goddess, and a very funny and quirky woman.
She couldn’t walk near me without stepping on my feet or tripping over me— literally every single time— because we just wanted to be too close. As though we were continually confused to be in two bodies instead of one. When we spent time together we would often say the exact same thing at the exact same time in the exact same inflection, and then laugh belly-splitting laughter for ten minutes straight because of the absurdity of that. I kept a list in my phone of my mother’s one liners:
1. Shortly after my father underwent cataract surgery she said to me “I gotta step up my game, now Dad can see me better.”
2. We were making keepsake books for the twins, gluing fabric onto the books. I say to her “why does fabric glue come in such small bottles?” She answers “Well people like making small fussy things instead of big wonderful things.”
3. About the winter olympics: “Curling, they can keep.”
4. “I have to have sweetener in my coffee, I’m sorry I know, it’s terrible. Don’t hate me for it”
5. About taking antibiotics: “You really want to “wham it, slam it.”
6. “If Dad were born in Canada his name would be Jaim… Eh?”
7. Listening to a song I had written she says: “Are those factoids?”
8. Hanging up the phone with Dafna she says “I love you, bye” and I say to her I’ve never heard you say I love you to Dafna before, that’s so nice. She says “Well, since I’ve been taking probiotics I’m a different person, what can I tell you”
9. Walking by an ad on a bench with a woman’s face plastered across it she says, “Now there’s a face you can trust.”
10. Seeing me write down something she said she says, “Are you immortalizing me?”

There’s this really luminous being named Maya.
They lived with me at my home in Los Angeles for a time.
The vibe of our cohabitation was: shimmery. So respectful. Inspired.
We spoke about possible paths — they spoke about becoming a death doula. About beeswax as an expression of love and care. Candlelight as companionship.
It’s so apt that Maya works in wax -
they leave every space brighter than when they arrived.
A couple months ago we had a conversation for @thecreativeindependent
about motherhood and creativity, two branches of my pulmonary system that will forevermore be linked together. 🙌
These images are of a one-time collaboration between Alphabet of Wrongdoing and @waxmaya - they made special beeswax for our montreal show at @ursamtl in 2019.
Please enjoy the interview at the link in our bio 🩵🩵🩵
And happy birthday dear Maya!!
I encountered @dernisterlosangeles for the first time last week. It’s a Jewish library and gathering space in downtown LA.
Something about being surrounded by Jewish books, art, and thought, but without the stricture of orthodoxy, made my cells sing.
This Saturday evening, the der nister luminaries will spin Cantorial gems from throughout the ages, and AoW is on the listen list.
One year for Yom Kippur I opted out of synagogue and instead checked out every version of the Kol Nidrey from the @wesleyan_u music library. Anthony braxton’s version was a standout.
Listening is active and rewires us.
Come listen and lounge with me Saturday night 9/9 at 8pm.
Space is very limited.

@arianareines has so graciously invited me to perform my songs about/for/from/through Amtlai — the inexplicably forgotten mother of (biblical) Abraham. These songs emerged when @joeysoloway brought Amtlai into my consciousness in a backyard conversation (that I had somehow pre-dreamed) at the height of the pandemic.
That very night, I started to dream about young, hot, fertile Amtlai, taut sunned skin stretching over a growing belly, writhing alone in her birthing cave, bringing Abraham into the world in solitude, in hiding, to protect him from a death decree. I dream that I give birth to a fully formed man, bearded and rough to touch. As Abraham becomes a man, as though he had hatched from an egg fully formed and not been born of a mother, he leaves his parents violently and never utters Amtlai’s name again. And we all followed suit, until now…
Very delighted to share this little flock of songs with you! Please join us- tomorrow night at @scrippscollege
Wednesday 12/7/22, Full Moon in Gemini 🕯 Scripps College: The Clark Museum, Humanities Building, Second Floor 🕯 with the participation of Gnostic Poetics, Ariana Reines, & special guest Daniela Gesundheit 🕯
I’ll be performing arrangements that I worked on with my dear collaborator @j_a_w_k_n_e_e

The box sets and libretto + CD are finally en route from @contitipocolor1906 in Florence. The proof gave me feeeeelings. And some very good cake box associations. It got through customs (ie my son Akiva). The music now has an IRL tactile vessel.
