I broke down crying 3 times during the recording session while singing it. @nicolas__snyder sent me the lyrics and melody during a moment of deep pain over endless war and suffering for so so many people, some my beloved people. I avoided finding words, but here they were, given to me, very simple and clear, very spacious for all my big feelings, and telling me - I Am Birthing Something New. The chorus simply says - I Love You. It’s an unconditional love that is coming from the planet, Mother Earth, Gaia, from oneself. An affirmation of Love for humanity, to remind us that no matter what, we are loved, and only love will end the cycle of hatred and destruction for ourselves and others. Put down your weapons. Soften your body. There is so much intense grief in the world right now.. Maybe there always was, always is? Pain is a part of this process of life, whether it’s privately yours or public shameful horrific tragedy.. Let yourself sob. Let yourself yell into the wind and then weep into your palms. Let yourself cry and scream, then wash your sorrow away in the river. Let it move through and Out. Through and Out. Through and Out. If I let my pain turn all of me into red hot anger, I become what I loathe. I wont let it. Let the darkness illuminate the light. Let seeing the light be your form of resistance to an embodiment of darkness trapped in your body with no way of explaining it out. Feel it out. 𝓜𝓜𝓞𝓞𝓝𝓝 Album out Today! How fitting that this album release aligns with the “fireball” splashdown landing of Artemis II - their mission sounded like what I sought to discover through the sonic transportation of this project - testing deep space systems felt from the power of music. Co-creating this music with @nicolas__snyder has been an incredible journey and honor, truly a cosmic collaboration that left us in awe of non verbal communication and deep listening in the space of real time composition. Most of these songs were completed in one session, sometimes one take. Our journey began at a performance of mine in a tunnel high up in Angeles Forrest (🙏🏽 @earth__poems ) and continued through voice lessons for over a year. It was our voices in harmony that loudly hinted we should be making music. The beautiful Soma Terra synth helped further guide the way. I am so grateful to Nic for bringing me back to my roots - drama, lyrics, melodies, rhythms, my ancestors, nature, calls of the wild, and The Microphone. One eve at the studio Nic asked me to bring a song from my acestral lineage we could play around with and this came through. This melody came through in the moment. I’ve spent countless hours trying to memorize the melody I improvised in the recording so that it would feel as familiar. Every time I sing this song I can feel my grandmother guiding me into new version of the language of her soul, my soul. The power of music to connect us beyond, never ceases to amaze me. It happens every single time. two weeks ago we gathered around pauline schindler’s studio within the iconic & historic schindler house to revel in both the devoted work of @makcenter and the singular voice of @odeyanini accompanied by her husband and our dear friend @archiecarey4 . guided by the legacy of pauline’s salons of the 1920s and 30s we shared tea, conversation, and reverberant music amidst these walls which commenced the experiment that we now know as southern california modernism ~ a home where architecture and nature harmonize as one. endless gratitude to the mak center staff for trusting us with this collaboration and being such incredible partners. it’s an honor to share their work, to host a gathering within the schindler house, and we hope to see you all again alongside their redwood beams and jacaranda trees. 📸s by @pixostrangers
