We got the unique opportunity to interview actor Dave Bautista. He spoke at a panel hosted by @icanintl at @islandsoundstudios discussing his Filipino heritage, his passion for giving back, and gave powerful advice to Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders pursuing careers in the film industry.
ICANâs mission is really important. They aim to elevate diversity and amplify underrepresented voices in entertainment. Despite the large number of TV and Film productions filming in Hawaiâi, the NHPI population is still the smallest percentage represented in the overall entertainment industry. ICANâs mission is to help create opportunities in work force development, build infrastructure and establish placement goals by amplifying training with extensive ongoing master classes for the people of Hawaii.
Mahalo to @davebautista@instantangie , Island Sound Studios, Brian Keaulana, Robert Suka and ICAN for bringing this opportunity here and kicking off the year with such aloha! đ€đœ
đđŒ Follow @icanintl for future announcements on master classes and how you can support our local film industry.

Iâve spent most of my life behind the scenes helping amplify other peopleâs talents and stories. That became my role. The builder. The support system. The person helping everyone shine.
Recently someone told me, âYou donât know what itâs like to be an artist.â
I had to laugh.
I come from generations of musicians and artists. People in my family literally survived concentration camps because of their art. I grew up around creativity and survival woven together. I taught myself instruments, art, photography, journalism, editing, production, strategy, jewelry making, marquetry, languages⊠honestly if I get interested in something, Iâll teach myself how to do it until I master it and get bored đ
I played drums as a kid. I was in bands. I sing. I write. I read music. Creativity has never been something outside of me. It IS me.
So that moment lit a fire under me because I realized how much of my life I spent shrinking myself around louder people with huge egos. I minimized myself so other people could feel exceptional while I stayed in the background helping carry them.
Not anymore.
People who constantly need attention, validation and supply are not actually the strongest people in the room.
The strongest people are the ones who build, create, adapt, survive, reinvent themselves and still help others rise too.
So no@I donât have one talent.I have many. And one of those is attracting vampire narcissists mana suckers.
After years of pouring into everyone else Iâm allowing myself to take up space too.
ALSO: This was my first time playing on a new electronic drum kit so Iâm still figuring it out đ I didnât record the drum output correctly yet, but trust me, Iâll have the recording setup mastered in no time. đ„ #hawaiiover40
Suiting up for my daily workout in what I now call âthe uniform.â đ Compression, support gear, and recovery mode every single day for the next 8 months.
Iâm now 12 weeks post-op from major abdominal reconstruction surgery. Hernia repairs, muscle repair, scar tissue/skin removal⊠basically my entire core got rebuilt after years of damage my body had been compensating for.
One of the biggest lessons Iâm learning through this process: the scale is NOT always the best measurement of success. Your body can still be changing, tightening, healing, getting stronger, and losing inches even when the numbers barely move. Plateaus happen. Pay attention to how you FEEL, how you move, your posture, your strength, your energy.
ALSO!!!! Core strength is vital!!! Restoring my core changed way more than I expected. Mobility, getting up from laying down, stability, even fatigue, I didnât realize how much my body was struggling until it wasnât anymore.
So if youâve had kids, injuries, hernias, major weight changes, or you feel like your stomach/core just isnât functioning correctly⊠get it checked!!! Seriously. Some things cannot be fixed with exercise alone, and depending on your situation, parts of it may even be covered by insurance.
Healing is weird. Progress is weird. Iâm learning patience with both. đȘ #hawaiiover40 #hi40 #healthjourney #transformation
-70 pounds down! Starting to share how I turned myself into my favorite filter. Getting a lot of questions about my lips so letâs start there⊠After shingles + weight loss, my lips were disappearing and one side was drooping.
I did a LOT of research on this before I committed. I decided on a combo of filler + lip blush. Itâs important to find people who know what they are doing too. Your injector matters. Look at their work! I had people offering me free service for trade but Iâm so glad I didnât do it. The ladies at @enhancehawaii are the masters. I wasnât going to just go to anyone because done wrong itâs what gives you that overfilled lumpy look. I showed them a filter and was like âI want thisâ đ and they said âsay less!â
Also lip blushing isnât what people think, you can change the color over time. This was such a game changer for me and @gypsylush is an artist.
Between the two it fixed the shape and made everything look even again.
And yes jawline too. Same team. Otherwise things wouldâve been heading south real quick đ #hawaiiover40
wasnât planning to make this but then I heard the new song from Peter Gabriel and it just hit hard.
If youâve followed us for a while, you already know this platform wasnât built in easy times.
Mauna Kea.
The fires.
The floods.
The late nights, the messages, the moments where everything felt like too much⊠and we just kept going anyway.
There were so many points where it wouldâve been easier to stop. To step back.
To not carry it all.
But Hawaiâi doesnât do that.
We show up.
Even when weâre tired.
Even when weâre hurt.
Even when nobodyâs watching.
Thatâs what this edit is.
Not just the big moments you saw
but the feeling behind them.
The way people came together without being asked. The way this community refuses to fold.
Thatâs Hawaiâi resilience.
This song is about the part of us that holds the line, no matter what.
So if youâre feeling it right now⊠if things feel heavyâŠjust remember who you are.
Youâve already proven it.
Over and over again.
Youâre still here.
And we wonât stand down.

Ho Hungry Hawaiian x 808 Viral in the wild! đ
Just wanted to take a quick minute to shout out the braddahs from the big pages whoâve been supporting me, been some heavy stuff happening lately, and when things like that happen, we really do connect behind the scenes more than people realize. Most of us running these bigger pages (@hhhnewz@meanhawaii@808viral@808buzz ) all know each other in real life. We talk. We collaborate. We show up for the community. Weâve known each other for years. They understand what comes with this life the pressure, the hate, the scary stuff. Itâs not easy. As the only female run page, Iâm so grateful to have these hammahs đȘđœI can lean on, and I know we have each others back when it comes to safety, and all the things people donât see.đ€
Weâve each had huge challenges weâve overcome and survived, and we all had our ups and downs even with eachother we had to figure out, but we came together in the end. Weâre very diverse, but the community is too and thatâs why what we do, together and individually, matters. đđŒ The respect is there. No drama. Just support. Hoping this inspires others to do the same.
Big love đ«¶đŒ for these guys doing it for the community. Proud of you braddahs, mahalo for always showing up. đ€

HawaiÊ»iâs country scene is bigger than people think đ€ đ» Boots n Beers now runs multiple festivals a year, pulling thousands of people.

To the ones still showing up with integrity in a space that rewards the opposite⊠this is for you. Itâs not easy being in an environment taken over by clout, chaos, and quick wins. You get misunderstood, attacked, overlooked, criticized, attacked and slandered, while the loudest voices who care the least seem to be rewarded.
If people like you didnât exist⊠this space would already be lost.
Social media isnât going anywhere. Just like people once feared phones and TV, social media may be messy but itâs the first time media is two-way, giving power back to the people, which is exactly why voices like yours matter. Itâs not the enemy itâs a tool. And right now itâs a battlefield. A digital war. And whether people realize it or not youâre on the front lines.
Youâre the proof that good people still exist.
Youâre the signal in all the noise.
Youâre what helps others remember whatâs real.
So if itâs been hard lately⊠if youâve questioned why you even keep goingâŠ
This is why.
Keep showing up. Whatâs dark will always come to light. Be the flashlight. đŠđ€
