first notes Antarctica: we have arrived - what a treat, and what a place on Earth ! and what a time to be here. after hours flying and navigating, we were welcomed yesterday with fresh bread, honey, salt, herbs and pepper, a tradition here. I will never forget such welcome. glacier water is already circulating through me, internally and externally. I wonder which dreams I will have here. it’s summer here and the weather, so far, isn’t that cold. the sun can be quite dangerous though. I have to get used to that. The way international cooperation works here is exemplary. I am present and feel a particular sense of calm. research is taking place through multiple channels and sources. Gracias a @lareinaunica por tu visión y a todo el equipo @arteenantartidapcaa @pac.cco y @fuerzaaereacol por toda la gestión necesaria para traernos aquí. Thanks to life for keeping me so thrilled and inspired. I feel blessed. 🙏🏽🍯 — in the banner (and as a first experiment): How do we practice non-extractive listening? What is the mineral world screaming? Can some kind of mineral governance / or mineral sovereignty offer an alternative to resource based geopolitics?

Exciting Update 🌱 it’s been just over a month since I joined the curatorial team at @gropiusbau where I’m and will be coordinating the Kerstin Brätsch BAUBAU: Spielort für Kinder project via the Outreach department. BAUBAU is envisioned as a long lasting and free of charge child-centered space dedicated to free play — it is not a program adapted to children, but rather a program for children, for all children in Berlin. I believe that play can be an important tool for healing and coping in these complex times and we are really making sure to reach audiences beyond the usual, and to weave a stronger relationship with the museums surroundings. I feel lucky to have landed in a project that resonates in many ways with my views and interests and to work alongside colleagues from whom I learn every day - from excel hacks to life lessons 📈💱🧡. It’s also exciting to be part of the early stages of Jenny Schlenzka’s and Patrizia Dander’s vision for the museum. Of course, my artistic practice continues, with ongoing projects and research on the side—but also, in many ways, within this work. Who says coordinating a program doesn’t involve critical and creative thinking?

New podcast episode 🌀✨🌪️ A Good Listener Knows That Knowledge is Everywhere; And. ~A spiral lecture in the context of applied ecologies~ In the framework of the III @listeningbiennial biennial - decentralized program, last autumn. over three months I carried a small notebook in my pocket, recording thoughts around what justice in relation to listening and applied ecologies could be. Stories, associations, referents around listening as a potential anti-extractivist tool that could render recognition to different knowledge systems and reciprocal relationships with beings and surroundings. thoughts emerged in movement and out of different contexts, while walking, while playing ping pong, while cooking dinner or just after a night out. Out of these notes, 13 chapters were woven into a spiral structure and assembled as a choreography, that I later painted onto my nails as a script to follow and present along @bureauforlistening and the winds of Amager Fælled, in Copenhaguen. Looking back I think of this little notebook as a carrier bag and the lecture as a shared harvest. Thank you dear @bureauforlistening for the invitation and for the trust with all the experiments, to @cape_ku for supporting the project and to the resonant public, with whom the wor(l)ds of the lecture were co-created, as listening conspirators. And, last but not least, to the wind because it definitely leaned towards the lovely event we had. Link of the podcast in the last image and in my bio.

Tomorrow! 🗓️ 30.04 at 11:30 📍 Universität der Künste Berlin Hardenbergstr. 33, room 151 @udkberlin With @danielamedinapoch Last minute invitation 🐚🕸️🧚🏼‍♀️ To form a spiral, to listen generatively, and to share edible seeds, along guest lecturer Daniela Medina Poch, who will offer the lecture A Good Listener Knows that Knowledge is Everywhere, And. A Spiral Lecture in the Context of Applied Ecologies within my Radical Futurity Toward Ecological Justice seminar at the Universität der Künste Berlin. “There are generally two ways to navigate a spiral: from its core to its outer layers, or from the outer layers toward its core; but perhaps there are many more. You will listen to an expanded range of references, and you might feel lost. Bear with uncertainty. Throughout this spiral, we will navigate different dimensions of listening: moving from the atmospheric, the speculative, and the bodily, to counter-extractivist and counter-surveillance kinds of listening, and into the relational, reciprocal, and generative. At the end, we might share some edible seeds.” Commissioned originally by Bureau for Listening and Center for Applied Ecologies in Copenhaguen, tomorrow we will have a cosy version of the lecture, specially for the students of this seminar, but open to anyone who wants to spontaneously join. (place) Daniela Medina Poch (b. Bogotá) is an interdisciplinary artist, author, and educator. She is a UdK alumna (MA Kunst im Kontext, 2023) and currently works with the curatorial team at Gropius Bau, coordinating BAUBAU: Ein Spielort für Kinder.

2/3 Antarctic waters, between solar eclipse and equinox pores open, fully receptive I stood present before millenary glaciers while my body, as recording device, created access points through which I could later return and continue the conversations with them across temporalities. my waters with their waters, liquid membranes receiving, recording, encoding. their presence and magnitude: temperature, sonic frequencies and silences, smells; our dimensions and ages in contrast, yet in dialogue. these days, while I attune to new~old frequencies and rhythms, I wonder how to read, hold, live the information i learned there. also I wonder whether I asked the glaciers all questions i had. then I remember, there is still an access ~ and the conversation continues. There are experiences that belong to a place. Moments that are so site-specific that sharing them might expose them to unfair translations. Such is what i feel in regards to Antarctica. the past month felt like a rite of passage through inner and outer waters. still in some threshold, I am slowly attuning to its imprint. traveling there also carries an ecopolitical dimension: the responsibility to convey the relevance this region holds for life as we know it. So, despite my hesitation to return to the fast pace of communication, here, with love, a first attempt to share some first impressions and artistic processes that unfolded during the 12th Colombian and 34th Bulgarian Expeditions to Antarctica, in which I participated as an artistic investigator. 1. [The moment I realized that] Antarctic ice shines at night. 2. Transparent flag and accidental blue light. documentation: Ernesto Bautista. 3. Antarctic Visions: 1st diagram from the series Semi-Scientific Knowledge by an Artist Near the South Pole. 4. Sailors say: do not whistle, for whistling calls windstorms /
windstorm. 5-9. IMAGI-NATION snow and rocks 23 m × 3 m installation by me. Once the snow melted, stone by stone of the word “nation” was removed. Documentation by Oleg Vassilev and by Ernesto Bautista. 10. Iceberg and vessel: two creatures in dialogue. 11. Letter to Antarctica. /
madrecita mía, dímelo todo. [Still from video.] 12. Self portait. 13. Fragment of another diagram from my series Semi-Scientific Knowledge by an artist near the South pole. 14. Today a piece of ice collapsed, and Helenis described the sound as that of a train in motion. 15. This is where the water we drank came from. 16. notes of notes from Quantum Dreaming by Sara Shin. 17. no sé. 18. The Antarctic skua along my anti-exctractivist banner. So refreshing to see animals that aren’t intimidated by humans.
19. Declaration of intentions to and with the mountain. Muchas gracias / heartfelt gratitude to @arteenantartidapcaa @lareinaunica , @viajelogia @pac.cco , and blagodarya to the 34th Bulgarian Expedition crew for receiving us with such kindness and generosity. forever in my heart.

Sustaining Softness amidst Thistles and Snakes are assembled through knots and entanglements. They seem to have some sort of agency or pulse, as they keep on transforming in unpredictable ways. They condense some rural scenes that stuck with me in my time in rural Uruguay during December, two years ago. Sheep walking down hills, tangled in thistles. Thistles holding pieces of wool. Rurality and the many invisible labors. Harshness and softness intermingled, an exchange of virtues and qualities through relation. Softness emerging despite and because of adversity. Softness as a possibility of subversion. One part of the work was left on site, offered in reciprocity for the generosities received. The other pieces are currently exhibited in dialogue with Pablo Fernández Zapata installation at @kunstraumkreuzberg Bethanien, within the framework of the exhibition Louder, Uglier, Taller, Weirder / Learning from Weeds, curated by @lopecado @anais_senli @sylv_inski and @sf__pan , to be visited until 11.01.26 many thanks to every being that made the work possible, including Jose Sousa, the thistles and sheep, Rafiki, Chris, @patriciabentancur , the @campo.garzon team, and Sonia, appearing on an image covered by wool, who wove them into the thread of this exhibition. Thanks for these lovely images taken by Sonia, Anaís, @pablo_fernandez_zapata , Jpgs , Ximena , Kata Benedek, Rafiki, and me

a little sneak peek of our Intersecting Mediterranean(s) featured in the 10-year anniversary publication of @thelinelondon East London’s public art trail freshly launched by Monacelli, Phaidon press a few days ago. as a good friend once said, one thing we can thank art for is the unexpected paths it leads us to. This has certainly been the case with our Intersecting Mediterranean(s), a work and a network containing currents that has intersected multiple people, stories and waters, and continues to do so, as a plural understanding of the Mediterranean is urgently needed today. Intersecting Mediterranean(s) is a long-term collaborative project by Daniela Medina Poch and @elizabethgallondroste , which explores the pluralization and complication of the geographical imagination of a singular Mediterranean through orchestrated encounters with Mediterranean regional rivers. [Excerpt of words by dear @chiaracartuccia ] With gratitude to everyone, every story, and every drop of water that forms part of this work ❤️Boushra Adi, Martha Ardila, Shiran Berkobich, Zahra Berramdane زهرة بنرمضان, Abla Eloudghiri, Lucía Gallón, Juditt Gatt, Miriam Gatt, Francisca Hartmann, Lea Mijaçika, Dina Mimi, Francesca Onagro, Ivana Papic, Lara Tabet, Kaliroi Tsolakidou, Blanca Utrillas, and waters of the: Nahr Ibrahim, Po, Isonzo/Soča, Neretva, Cem/Cijevna, Düden, Jordaan, Kishon, Nile, Medjerda, Chelif, Moulouya, Ebro, and Rhône rivers.
