(English in comments) 🌿 Gropius‘ Kulturinseln 🌿 Wildmeisterdamm 🌿 An zwei Sonntagen im Juni und September 2026 verwandeln wir den Wildmeisterdamm in einen Kunstparcours. Der Wildmeisterdamm verläuft quer durch die Gropiusstadt und verbindet unterschiedliche Quartiere mit dem angrenzenden Landschafts- und Vogelschutzgebiet. Er ist ein Ort des Übergangs – zwischen Stadt und Natur, zwischen Alltag und geschütztem Naturraum. Das Programm steht jedes Jahr unter einem wechselnden Thema, das die Geschichte und Dynamik des Ortes aufgreift. 2026 konzipieren Kunst Werk Stadt Berlin [@Kunstwerkstadtberlin ] unter der Leitung von Elisa Dierson und Katja Marie [@katjamarievoigt ] den Parcours unter dem Thema BODEN + LÜFT. Früher lagen hier Felder und ein königliches Jagdrevier, heute treffen Hochhäuser, Spielplätze und Naturraum aufeinander. 🛌 In Bed with ‘Others’ by artist @valentinakarga is reminiscent of times when belonging was not thought of in terms of separation, but in terms of interdependence. The archaeologist Marija Gimbutas understood the numerous female figurines she found during her excavations in the 1950s as a reference to the female-centered cultures of Old Europe and the belief in Gaia, the goddess of the earth and the primordial mother of all life. In 1972, the microbiologist Lynn Margulis and the chemist James Lovelock formulated the Gaia hypothesis: the planet Earth as a living being, as a self-regulating system. In doing so, they combined prehistoric ideas of death and renewal with the questions about environmental destruction that were emerging at the time. Today, Rosi Braidotti and other posthuman theoreticians call for binary opposites such as culture/nature, woman/man, or “us”/“the others” to be overcome. Against this backdrop, the prehistoric figures not only represent strong diverse voices in a patriarchal society, but also a celebration of “otherness” in all its forms. The installation invites us to get closer to these “others”, to cuddle with them, to dream up new forms of coexistence - and to unlearn to think in divisive categories. — 🛏️ In Bed with ‘Others’ erinnert an Zeiten, in denen Zugehörigkeit nicht durch Trennung, sondern durch Verflechtung gedacht wurde. Die Archäologin Marija Gimbutas verstand die weiblichen Figurinen, die sie bei ihren Ausgrabungen in den 1950er Jahren fand, als Hinweis auf frauenzentrierte Kulturen Alteuropas und den Glauben an Gaia, die Göttin der Erde und Urmutter allen Lebens.  Heute fordern Rosi Braidotti und andere posthumane Theoretiker:innen binäre Gegensätze wie Kultur/Natur, Frau/Mann, oder „Wir“/„die Anderen“ zu überwinden. Vor diesem Hintergrund stehen die prähistorischen Figuren nicht nur für starke vielfältige Stimmen in einer patriarchalischen Gesellschaft, sondern für eine Feier des „Andersseins“ in all seinen Formen.  Die Installation lädt ein, sich diesen „Anderen“ zu nähern, mit ihnen zu kuscheln, neue Formen des Zusammenlebens zu erträumen – und zu verlernen, in trennenden Kategorien zu denken. 📷 Ivonne Thein

In an age of mounting environmental collapse, emotional resilience has become a political necessity. WELL BEINGS, Valentina Karga’s (@valentinakarga ) immersive installation at Kunstmuseum Bochum (@kunstmuseum_bochum ), responds to this condition not through alarmist spectacle, but by creating a space of tactile refuge. What would it mean to attend to the climate crisis not only with data and protest, but with softness, slowness, and somatic attunement? WELL BEINGS does not offer easy answers. Instead, it insists on the importance of emotional regulation as a political tool—one that can help metabolize fear, reframe trauma, and maybe, just maybe, reorient us toward a less extractive way of being. In a culture of exhaustion, Karga makes a compelling case for rest as resistance, and for care as a form of ecological imagination. In the conversation, Karga reflects on her personal experience with eco-anxiety and how it shaped the development of WELL BEINGS. She speaks about the emotional and political dimensions of care, the possibilities of collective strategies, and the need to revisit our relationship to the planet as participants in a shared, vulnerable ecosystem. In Germany, their design also lets light into a modernist building with architectural clarity, which proves helpful for Valentina Karga’s current exhibition, with the artist trying to allow a space of relaxation, contemplation & de-stress to help visitors deal with climate anxiety. Alison Hugill went along to find that to deal with our future, Karga asks us to also look to the past. Gimbutas’ publications in the 1970s and 80s unearthed evidence of matrilineal cultures in Eastern and Central Europe through discoveries of its neolithic and Bronze age goddess figurines. However, her work was often maligned and subject to campaigns to discredit it as “myth-making,” as she attempted to delineate a largely peaceful, pre-patriarchal society, and to insist on its scientific validity through the evidence of its goddess-worshipping artefacts. Mai Die neue HfG-Professorin für Relationales Design, Valentina Karga, präsentiert derzeit im Kunstmuseum Bochum ihre Einzelausstellung Well Beings. Die interdisziplinäre Künstlerin und Architektin schafft darin einen atmosphärischen Raum, der sich den emotionalen Dimensionen der Klimakrise widmet. Zwischen kollektiver Sorge, Trauer, Hoffnung und Widerstand lädt die Ausstellung dazu ein, über unser Eingebundensein in ökologische Zusammenhänge nachzudenken – jenseits klassischer Lösungsnarrative.
