“Fortune & Abundance” @chiachiogiannone at @wanaskonst Throwing confetti, sanctifying the “fiesta”. We call this act chaya. Wanås Konst is pleased to present the artist duo Chiachio & Giannone’s first solo exhibition in Sweden, featuring works both indoors and outdoors in the sculpture park. Chiachio & Giannone describe their work as “painting with needle and thread”. Departing from sketches and photographs, they create multifaceted textile works using embroidery, patchwork, and quilting. The process is slow and labor-intensive, and the compositions can take several years to complete. Since the early days of their artistic careers, they have sought to elevate the status of textile art while adding nuance to the portrayal of LGBTQ people in Argentina. In their works, everyday life in Buenos Aires meets influences from both queer iconography and Latin American and European art history. By also incorporating Catholic motifs and references to indigenous traditions, they create visual narratives where the spiritual and the quotidian coexist. A sense of collectivity is ever-present in their work, and as a duo they dissolve the boundaries between their individual artistic practices. When the audience becomes a co-creator, as in the workshop at Wanås Konst, this quality of their work is further deepened. With donated textiles created by hands other than their own, the textiles become infused with additional layers of time, memory, and history. Curator Debora Voges

Med verket vill konstnärerna väcka reflektion kring överflöd och begär, men också kring hur traditioner och riter får ändrade betydelser i olika tider och sammanhang. recurring theme in Chiachio & Giannone’s work is their interest in how folklore endures and evolves over time. Guardianes de’los Deseos is based on a pre-Columbian deity named Ekeko, originating from the Altiplano region of the Andes. It is a common talisman in Latin American homes and is said to bring prosperity in exchange for food, money, and cigarettes. The figure is usually depicted as a cheerful, mustachioed man in traditional Andean attire. It is small in size, but for Wanås Konst, Chiachio & Giannone have recreated the Ekeko at a larger scale using local beech wood. The knitted hats combine patterns from the Comechin-gona people with the rainbow flag. Through this work, the artists invite us to reflect on the ideas of abundance and desire, but also on how traditions and rituals take on different meanings in different times and contexts.

“El regalo” 2015 Bordado a mano con hilos de algodón s/gabardina y tela Alexander Henry© 125 x 210 cm @parallel_oaxaca ➡️ Parallel Oaxaca is thrilled to present “Silhouettes” with Nahum B. Zenil, Frieda Toranzo Jaeger, Chiachio & Giannone, Michael van den Abeele, Aline Bouvy, Vava Dudu and Rubén Ulises Rodríguez Montoya Friday, April 17, 6-9 pm Alumnos 14-B, San Miguel Chapultepec, CDMX In “Silhouettes,” the intertwining and blurring of various forms of portrayal, materialities, and expression generate an unusual dynamic: a transfiguration and recasting of the everyday. At the confluence of presence and time, the exhibition considers individual ideologies and sovereignty within the aesthetic experience of corporate culture. Against the reduction to stereotypes, it foregrounds desire as a structuring force, moving toward a constellation of mythologies that reimagine communal bodies. A presence expanding its borders, a body renegotiating its visibility, its social conditioning, affects, erasure, and its autonomy against banality and the reduction imposed by the spectacle and its framing of subjects, rendering artworks as public display where figuration -saturated with desire, labor and private emotional attachments become visible.
