1st session down for Ashleigh. This was a little under 3 hours of tattooing. Not rushing. Just being steady and committed. -aaaand having the right machine. It sucks getting tattooed on the back. I do my best to get in and get out, as I also appreciate getting tattooed in an efficient manner. Crazy. At $200hr, I am cheaper now than I was 20 years ago when I was cutting my teeth! -Used the Full Monty with cartridges for this one. Performance wise, it’s about the same as standard needle setup. I still love how a standard needle sounds and feels, but for those who love their carts, you won’t feel the compromise.
Had a great time tattooing this dragon head for Mike. He had a sick Hanya mask on his other inner arm from another local artist..kept me on my toes! Used the Full Monty’s for the whole thing. Done under 2 hours 💨
Here’s something new to me: A splitting sun concept to symbolize his twin boys. Had a fun time with it. Using my Full Monty setup with both a standard and a cartridge setup. 👌.
Forgot to post this one: last one at my old shop. Cheers @hamblenwalker I now have m studio in the same building as my machine shop. Now taking appointments!
Used my new Full Monty machines for this one.
Had a blast doing this gothic style reaper for my friend @fiddle_bitch -also had a blast with my soon to be released Sidewinder pen type machine, respectfully named “the Full Monte”. It ain’t just some other pen that you dick around with. This thing has balls! -yet can be dialed back to be gentle enough for the most delicate techniques. This isn’t a machine for beginners. This is a machine for those who know how to tattoo and know how they want their machine to hit. For those who value a powerful machine, as they prefer to be delicate and deliberate with their hand.
I’m on a kick of leaning into the subject matter I struggle with.. the other week, my daughter was home and wanted a small dragon tattoo.. and I realized I was not really confident to nail a design down in a timely manner. Anyway, been studying them, and had a nice breakthrough on laying my scales in a way that can be easily free handed in the tattoo process.
I still have a touch of imposter syndrome doing Japanese influenced designs. I want to pay respect to that craft whilst creating that resonates more with my style.
Cheers!
Fun times today with this modified rock of ages theme.
Testing out a new machine (that I’ve been working on for the past 7 months) the cardinal was referenced from the last painting his grandfather painted for him.. and his signature was used in the banner.
Cheers DJ!
