There are few things I enjoy more than a good road trip along secondary roads, with pit stops, roadside sandwiches and forgotten places, so I instantly connected with @adriantylerphotography project and loved working on this piece for @maneramagazine Big kudos to @edicionesasimetricas for making this book happen!

Renéixer, the winter issue of @monarrels includes a double-page piece I wrote on Josep Mates and Gavarres Invisibles, who have brought pine-tar making back to Les Gavarres, with the support of @ajuntament_forallac and @cgavarres . I first came across their work while visiting @albaola_faktoria for @watercraftmagazine and this time I was able to follow the story with a bit more depth

This Friday at @nosdiario a piece on the endangered work of Ramón Caamaño, an extraordinary character and a part of Muxía’s visual heritage. I have been thinking a lot lately about how easily photographers’ legacies can disappear. I hope institutions get to work with his family and protect it before it is too late.

The rabelos on the Douro look like pure postcard material. We treat them as part of the scenery, but they’re still here thanks to a hundred-year-old yard, Socrenaval, where António Sousa and his team stubbornly hold their ground against touristification and gentrification. In this November issue of @woodenboatmagazine I wrote about the people who keep these boats alive while the river, and the city around it, change at full speed.

This time, a bit of city grit, design and typography for @maneramagazine There’s something magnetic about the streets of New York, and I’m convinced the signs are a big part of that. The team at @nysignmuseum does an incredible job preserving them, and this weekend they’re part of @openhousenewyork Thanks to David and Randall for taking the time to answer my questions and to Joshua and Phil for the photos!

In the September/October issue of @woodenboatmagazine I was invited to write about one of France’s historic yards, @chantiernavalborg in Marseille, now thriving again. Probably one of my favorite corners of the city! Many thanks to Michel Athénour for the warm welcome and for showing me around! Enjoy the read.

September means a new piece for @watercraftmagazine this time exploring the wooden boatbuilding scene in Catalunya. On this road trip I got to talk to @drassanes_tradicionals @ladrassana @paticatalacalafell @velallatinacarlosbarral @aixa.cat and spend time with the folks at the @museudelapesca @museudelescala and the @museumaritim There’s so much more going on here than it seems. Huge thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! And, of course, I couldn’t miss La Paca, La Francisca, Kate, and the good old Santa Eulàlia, all looking better than ever!

Closing out July with a short piece for @woodenboatmagazine on @asteleiros_fra and @fuertespenedoarquitectos project to build a museum shipyard in San Ciprián @concello_de_cervo A contemporary take on the traditional shipyard, with wood and glass shaping an open space for building. Seven generations of shipwrights and still looking ahead!

Neither @aitor_punto nor I were sure I’d manage to fit everything into one article but @maneramagazine gave me enough room to take a more literary route this time. Aitor’s work, recognised by @fundesarte @artesania_de_galicia and @circulofortuny certainly deserves it. Thanks for your patience Aitor, this one took way too long. Enjoy the read!
