Over the last few months I’ve been singing with @squeezeogram for their 50th anniversary tour! The experience with this lot remains surreal and my English accent is still rubbish.
ET’s lack of muscle tone was a challenge but we did the best could. Another Spring out now.

Devil Man started in jest. Back in 2017, I was sitting with a tiny keyboard in my lap when a friend of mine handed me a glass of whiskey. I made up the first verse and chorus, jokingly, about him in his presence and then put the keyboard down. 6 years later I thought it would be fun to try and finish it. To write the second verse, I just thought of times I’ve been led astray by someone charismatic and more self assured than I am. I’m a fairly paranoid and guarded person, but once in awhile someone slips through the cracks, picks me up and drops me off in the middle of nowhere.

Not too long ago, I was looking at a list of songs in the public domain and came across this one. I thought it was so pretty and familiar and then realized it was the tune that played on my childhood music box. Beautiful Dreamer was written by Stephen Foster and published in 1864. I read that the song “tells of a lover serenading a “Beautiful Dreamer” who is oblivious to worldly cares and may actually be dead.” To me, it’s a lullaby for the dead and the grieving. It might also help put your baby to sleep.

One of the things that saves me from my recurring feelings of loneliness, aimlessness, low self worth, and regret is the fond memories I have of Spring and the ways it tends to bring me back to life. Even if just for a moment. I recently found this old photo of my late mother, Linda. She’s about 20 here. The longer I’ve been without her- the more I see myself in her. With time, I’ve realized I’m fighting many of the same demons she was. I don’t wanna project too much onto this photo, but something about it reminds me of this song. Another Spring out now. 📻
Tried to make a stop motion. I love my toys but they’re very stubborn drunks. Devil Man is out tomorrow! You can pre save via the link in my bio. It’s not as easy as it sounds.
Thanks to @joyandnoelle for their counsel.
