After 20 years in London, we have finally relocated to our dream home in the countryside (more on that later). My first port of call was to pop down the road to go and see my friend Richard at his workshop in Stoke.
Richard has been making handmade tiles here since the early 90s and almost exclusively makes tiles for restoration projects for The National Trust. Richard supplies the bisque tiles for my tile projects. He makes the finest bisque tiles around, exactly as they were made 100 years ago, on the very same presses.
It was an honour to visit this workshop, one of 3 remaining in this country that can do this work. If you have visited a listed building such as a stately home (or any tube station on the London Underground for that matter) you will have seen tiles that Richard has made.
This marks an evolution in my practice, changing my location and engaging with traditional, regional crafts to bring my bespoke designs to life.

This was a lovely project I did some years ago for The Art a house in Wakefield. I loved responding to the building and considering how to repurpose the materials, using the inherent narrative of the library shelving.

Details from the bespoke wallpaper I created for a campaign for @highlandparkofficial . I enjoyed exploring a new style of drawing that is looser and full of energy. I also really enjoyed working with my good friend @till8@hypsomedia on shooting a film about the process (you can check this out in my reels).

Welcome to a new thing I'm doing that I'm going to call SHOUT OUT SUNDAY! I'll be taking time to show appreciation for my amazing and talented friends. This week I'm talking about my long-term pal and creative polymath @nick_qs .
I first met Nick when I was working with @retrouvius to create bespoke interior surfaces many years back, later we had studio spaces in the same building in Hackney. Nick is always working on something wonderful and I'm honoured to own a couple of his pieces that take pride of place at home.
