SERIOUS MATTERS DROPS TOMORROW and I cannot even begin to describe what a long road it’s been with this one, dumb, 16-minute movie. From early test-shoots in the basement of Giantkiller House that gave @will_sinclair a rash, to making cars fly with 1970’s-era VFX techniques in a cramped and roach-infested studio apartment in East Hollywood, to trying and failing to describe the finished product at a @videodrunk Q&A via Zoom in my living room — I’m pressed to even remember a time where I *wasn’t* working on this damn thing. We built DIY cranes out of Home Depot poles, dumbbell weights and broken tripods, turned my mom’s garage into a studio, trespassed to shoot on private property after hours, rehearsed and reshot and learned all new techniques to hone in on a sci-fi world that was only vaguely sci-fi because it felt occupied by real people, and spent an embarrassing number of years piecing the damn thing together from the scraps left over from my paychecks after rent was paid. This was a labor of love, emphasis on the labor, and after a two-year run in ten amazing and supportive film festivals, I finally get to send my baby out into the world for it to find its people. I hope y’all like SERIOUS MATTERS, and share it with anyone you think will like it, and ask/tell/coerce/bribe/blackmail them to do that same. We made it to make it, but we also made it to be seen. Very proud to have been one small part of an incredible Brand Studio editorial team on Google’s 25 Years in Search! Been on this one since August, and working on it was one of the most rewarding collaborative experiences of my professional life so far.
