Shout-out to everyone who has watched, shared, and/or written about @momowelch ’s comedy special, Dad Jokes. It truly is a labor of love and your support means the world to the tiny team of people who made DJ possible. If you missed it, it’s available to watch RIGHT NOW on YouTube! Just search ā€œcomedy special that will make me laugh, cry, and want to ride a motorcycle with my jestranged parentā€ and it should be the first thing that pops up.

2023 was all about @kimberlyastites . Truly the toughest person I know. Started the year with a cancer diagnosis that required surgeries and 14 rounds of chemo — somehow continued to work (and crush it) at her job during that process — ALL WHILE PREGNANT! Then when the time came she pushed pause, gave birth, and finished treatment so she could shift gears and enjoy being a new mom. I still can’t believe all that really happened…but it did. So next time you see Kim know that you are in the presence of greatness and give her a big fat bear hug (she LOVES that)!

Dad Jokes started over a cup of coffee. Mo had a wild idea — what if she went to Central Illinois to reconnect with her estranged father and we filmed the reunion in real time? With the caveat being, of course, that Mo would use this real life encounter as an opportunity to create her own version of the ultimate Dad Joke. We knew we had something that got us excited, but no idea if it would work or was possible or how to even get started. Is this a documentary? A comedy special? Both? Whatever let’s just go do it and figure that out later. But then in the lead up there’s worry...fear of stirring up shit from the past, ethical questions like, "is this messed up to even try and do?", "will anyone care?ā€, etc. The reason we forged ahead is because Mo wanted to take control — of her own relationships, of her own career, and of her own material. And ultimately that instinct is what led to Dad Jokes becoming something we never anticipated — totally relatable. Confronting your past is completely terrifying and universal and one of the best parts about this special is that we got to capture the moment Mo actually went out and DID it. Oh yeah, there’s jokes too. Lots of ā€˜em. Dad Jokes is completely Mo — hilarious, wholly original, and brave as hell. I’m so happy we can finally talk about the special and share it with as many people as possible! Also of course couldn’t have made this thing happen without a bunch of people, starting with @madgetnightly , @trevorwineman , @kenneydoit , @jordanlevydp , @jkatcher , @theonlyalanajohnston , @kurtarooni , @outsmartin , @zikihexum , @maryqute , @veeps and so many others along the way. Hit that link, buy a ticket and take the ride with us on December 10th!!!!
