“I consider my choreography successful if some essence of a performer’s spirit burns through it directly into the heart of a viewer, or fellow dancer; so that performer’s essence forever lives inside another… I aim to create structures that allow these flashes of personified life force to be expressed and exchanged.” - Alison Clancy

#fridayfilmbreak🎞 While @calebteicher says that they and @nicgareisslfi “lead full artistic lives as percussive dancers in different ‘scenes,’ ” the two have also been frequent collaborators over the past 15 years. This short film captures the give-and-take of their improvisation, in which rhythm becomes both structure and language.
The duo will perform at the La Jolla Music Society’s (@ljmusicsociety ) Summerfest on August 17, with more fall dates to be announced soon.

“For me, it’s about nourishment in a full-bodied comprehensive way. After such a long winter, after such a depleting year, we need [nourishment] more than ever.” A beautiful sentiment that is particularly resonant as we head into 2023! Although it uses both the Ellington and Tchaikovsky music, among others, “Nut/Cracked” by The Bang Group (of which our Director Nic Petry is a former member) takes the dance to a whole new interpretation through their distinctive combinations of rhythmic dance styles. And audiences have loved it for decades - in fact, this year will be the 20th Annual performance of “Nut/Cracked”! Congratulations, The Bang Group! @frandpapa@tbgdaddy1@eringott@ainsworthchelsea@danieldances@alexbiegelson@louloubenks@ambersloan.nyc@tommycsj
