I’ve been on this life journey of a career shift for about a year now and to see my work on screened in a theater full of people was an experience I can’t event put into words. I got the opportunity to creative direct a produce a documentary highlighting 10 incredible Black Queer musicians for their @glaad EMEI final showcase at @creativeartistsagency Special thanks to @dashawnusher and the @glaad communities of color for giving me the opportunity to lead this project and deep gratitude to the artists for trusting me with this small part of their story. And much love to my Howard brothers @rileyswilson and @ryanchamilton for lended their immense talents to this project. I constantly exist in this space of wanting to give up and awe of what I’ve accomplished on my own outside of the shadow of corporate. I heard a @ajamonet quote recently that said “Art is about process it’s capitalism that got us hung up on product.” It’s amazing to look at the final product of our recent @surfacelevelpodcast live show but the magic for me was in the process. Taking this stage idea from concept to reality is VERY high on the list of proudest SLP accomplishments. Special thanks to @gtg_3 for being such an instrumental piece of making this shit happen. I'm a Black queer boy from Chicago, with family roots in Mississippi, raised on the sounds of gospel, house, and juke music. A place that imbued me with bold style and the ability to love hard — or check a bitch when necessary. Where going to a live show meant a Tyler Perry musical, and steppin' was part of every party.
