5years ago in Seoul, 8800km from London, I started grime inspired by Skepta, Wiley and Jme
My first grime tune was 'Nasty Freestyle' recorded on Wiley - Morgue Instrumetnal
And yesterday, my music has returned to its roots

이번 세션은 DJ의 즉흥적인 비트 셀렉션 위에서
MC들이 사이퍼 형식으로 참여하는
Grime 기반 라이브 방식으로 진행되었습니다.
현장에서 만들어지는 흐름과 에너지,
그리고 DJ와 MC 간의 상호작용을 그대로 담아내고자 했습니다.
이번 세션에는 힙합을 기반으로 출발해
그라임을 포함한 UK 사운드로 활동 영역을 확장하고 있는 Boi B,
그리고 국내 그라임 씬을 기반으로
덥스텝, UK 개러지 등 UK 베이스 음악 전반으로 활동을 넓혀가고 있는 Damndef가 함께했습니다.
또한 이번 프로젝트를 통해
국내에서도 UK 씬과 그 문화에 대한 관심이 더 확장될 수 있도록
하나의 계기가 되기를 바라는 마음으로 준비했습니다.
완성된 공연이 아닌,
그 순간 생성되는 밀도와 에너지를 기록한 세션입니다.

This session is built on a grime-based live format,
where MCs take part in a cypher over the DJ’s spontaneous selection.
It focuses on capturing the natural flow, energy,
and real-time interaction between the DJ and MCs.
Featuring Boi B, who has expanded from hip-hop into UK sounds including grime,
and Damndef, rooted in the Korean grime scene and now exploring a wider range of UK bass music including dubstep and UK garage.
Through this project, we also hope to
encourage more interest in the UK scene and its culture within Korea.
Rather than a staged performance,
this session captures raw energy as it unfolds.

영국에 UKG의 전신인 뉴욕하우스가 처음 상륙했을 때 영국의 메인스트림은 락이였습니다. 당시 사회 전반적으로 전자음악을 천박하게 여기는 풍조가 매우 강했기 때문에, TV나 메인 라디오에 이런 음악들이 등장하는 것은 불가능에 가까웠습니다.
때문애 이 문화를 향유하는 DJ들은 영해상 부표에 라디오 송수신기를 달아 음악을 송출했고 이것이 현재 영국 음악 문화의 전반을 아우르는 거대 라디오 스테이션들의 모태가 되는 해적방송 (Pirate Radio) 입니다.
MC와 프로듀서들은 CD에 자신들의 음악을 녹음해 DJ들에게 보내고, 주류 채널처럼 다방면으로 검열할 필요없이 실력과 개성으로만 승부하여 송출되어 유명세를 얻고... 이런 선순환이 2-30년 가까이 반복되며 하나의 시스템으로 자리잡았고, 수많은 채널과 스테이션이 생기며 영국의 유스컬쳐를 서포팅 하는 든든한 기반이 되고 있습니다.
그로부터 20년 후 지구 반대편에서, 해적방송의 산실 중 하나인 Grime이 좋았던 한 젊은이는 그 시스템의 도움을 받아 뿌리에 이름을 알리게 되었고, 그를 시작으로 여러가지 일들을 거쳐, 작게나마 나름의 레거시를 가지게 되어, 이 모든 것들을 만든 라디오들 중 가장 상징적인 라디오의 30주년 기념 행사 전시회에 이름을 올리게 됩니다.

2024 marks a huge milestone for Underground Radio - Rinse FM - London’s original pirate radio station turns 30 years old.
As pioneers in UK club culture, at a time where sounds like UK Garage, Jungle, Grime, DNB, Dub, bassline and other genres are all reaching wider audiences, the station is partnering with like-minded radio collectives around the world and have linked with trailblazing Asia community radio station Seoul Community Radio (who themselves are approaching their own 9 years broadcasting milestone) to put on a special event in Seoul celebrating UK club culture… to the world.
The Seoul event forms part of a year-long celebration for Rinse across multiple countries and spanning various platforms. Key parties already include Glastonbury, Drumsheds London. Oslo and others and now the heat comes to Korea with a party featuring some mainstays of the UK bass scene and an exhibition event celebrating the historical origins of pirate radio
Topping the bill is a true legend of UK Grime in D Double E who will perform a live vocal set with Sir Spryo on deck duties. They will be joined by next gen basscadets IZCO and Amaliah out in Asia on tour
Local support comes in the form of essential Seoul artists and crews such as Ghetto Ray, More Breaks, Jungle Hongdae, Deadbois, Kimchi Factory Homies, bringing the finest UK genres respliced in Korea.
The event kicks off at 7PM and will feature music across two floors with exhibition space showcasing photos and artifacts from London pirate radio and online radio history. The main stage will open from 10PM with a fully loaded PA and setup.

If you’re into UK music culture, you’ve probably know @kuruptfm or you’ve def caught some to dem tunes somewhere… MC Grindah @seapa220 and his mandem @kieroshima@marcuslurks make this channel called “Taste Cadet (맛보기 생도)”. @tastecadets they travel all over the world, checking local spots that only true domestics would know, I joined them half of Seoul episode (maybe I was officially certified fat guy 🐷)
Real talk, I was lose motivation for music after covid hit. I can say now, there were some mad opportunities that could changed my life as Grime MC but they all cancelled, and if u know me personally, yall know my family situation was fucking rough til early this year too. I was bit lost.. but I think this year’s been different. mandem around me called up for some dope projects and events. It’s given me new energy. Surely Taste Cadet is also one of dem so I share it
