A few months back, when I was working on my graduation film, I tackled this shot â one of the most challenging of the whole project.
We decided to use USD, and with such a heavy RBD setup, it definitely pushed our pipeline to the limit.
All the FX were done in @sidefxhoudini and rendered in Solaris with Arnold.

I experienced pyro on Houdini and it was a really good time!
The original render is in 2:35 and we feel way better the explosion and the size.
I admit the square ratio isn't the best one but at least you can see better.
