Almost a decade ago, you were given just months to live because of lung damage caused by chemicals sprayed on the farms near your home in Ojai. Your husband and your dog passed recently, and you were 89 years old — so how could anyone call your passing a shock? But anyone who knew you would understand. Just two weeks ago we spoke, like we so often did, and you were so full of life! So many projects — finishing your memoir, adapting the screenplay we wrote together into a Broadway play that you would star in. We still had to get our movie made and find distribution for Isle of Hope, the project that brought us together, where you delivered an Oscar-worthy performance. You were the greatest teacher, collaborator, and friend anyone could hope for. Funny, witty, enlightened, sensitive, caring, generous, and kind — you were everything the world needs right now. I’ll miss our conversations, but I know you’re with your angels. Thank you for sharing this small chapter of your story with me — for your friendship, your love, and for always believing in me.
