We’re proud to announce our next Creative Producer Programme NOVUM commission -
@payal.ramchandani , creative producer, dance artist and choreographer, and founder of Plural Roots.
Introducing Beats, Cycles & Song 🥁💃
An immersive live performance shaped with communities across Newcastle, co-created with community groups in the lead-up to the festival and brought together for one powerful shared moment at NOVUM Summer Festival.
This is co-creation in motion; a conversation between South Indian classical percussion, Afro-rhythmic traditions and North East folk brought to life by musicians, movement artists and community groups. Expect rhythm you can feel. Energy you can’t stand still to. A collective pulse, created together. 💚
This project features an incredible mix of talent including afro-beat percussionist and composer
@hannabiell Sanders (picture #2) and accordionist, pianist and songwriter
@dallingtim (picture #3).
“At its heart, this work will bring people and traditions together in shared space, creating a sense of collective belonging at NOVUM Summer Festival. Rooted in Newcastle’s spirit, where different cultures and communities shape the city together, it opens up access to art forms often experienced separately. At NOVUM, come for the music, feel the rhythm, move with it, and be part of something that begins to feel like home” - Payal Ramchandani - Creative producer & founder of Plural Roots
Beats, Cycles & Song is part of NOVUM Summer Festival; a three-day takeover of culture, play and entertainment is coming to Newcastle city centre, Friday 7 – Sunday 9 August. Expect the unexpected and be the first to hear what’s landing.
