ARTIST WORKSHOPS — Sunday 24 May Before Dali De Saint Paul and Mariam Rezaei close the Kapsule stage together on Sunday, they’re each leading a workshop earlier in the day. Spaces are limited — get down early. — 12:45–14:00 Vocal Workshop with Dali De Saint Paul An introductory workshop exploring the voice as a musical, communal, and political instrument. Expect improvisation techniques, listening exercises, and a look at the history of experimental sound — and how multiple voices can interact in the context of improvisation. Dali is a prolific collaborator and a central figure in Bristol’s improvised music scene, completely self-taught, whose project EP/64 spanned more than 40 musicians across 64 concerts over six years. — 14:45–15:45 Experimental Turntablism with Mariam Rezaei Mariam Rezaei is a multi-award-winning composer, turntablist and performer working across experimental new music, free improvisation, mutant club music and hip-hop. Described by The Wire as one of the most technically adept and creatively daring artists to use the turntable as a musical instrument, this workshop offers a rare chance to learn from a true pioneer of the form. — Both workshops are free to festival ticket holders, taking place at Kapsule. IKLECTIK presents an evening of expanded listening, where two powerful constellations of artists move between sonic intensity and intimacy. PanOrama Bristol-based experimental artists and Oram laureates, Dali de Saint Paul, Lia Mazzari and Kathy Hinde present PanOrama, an improvised work blending voice, cello, electronics, field recordings, with materials from Daphne Oram’s archive. _________ A quiet tuning - practices of listening This is not a concert of loud sounds, but of tuning in. Through fragile, slow, and unstable works by women composers—text scores, graphic notation, voice, and quiet, tender listening practices—it creates a space to notice what usually passes unheard, between sound, voice, and silence. Featuring: Tomoko Hojo, Wan-Chien Cheng, Myriam Van Imschoot, Cara Tolmie & Anna Holveck. This collaboration is supported by Harmonic Ito Foundation and CRiSAP University of the Arts London.
