1st - 5th April 2026
My first Anagama, wood kiln, firing with @brigittecolleaux_woodfiredpots & Svend at @oxfordkilns 🔥🔥🔥
2~5. 2 day of packing with Brigitte…, which was harder than I expected. A lot and lot of wadding making while kneeling and crawling inside the kiln carrying pots and heavy shelves.
6~7. Svend started the firing very early in the morning
8. The state of pegs after last summer!!
(Boys never mentioned nor replaced them…)
9. Camping in the gutsy winds 💨
10~13. Late night firing shift… under the beautiful moon while listening to owls.
14. Quiet morning… After closing all the openings of the kiln.
It was an eye-opening experience, to say the least. I now truly appreciate potters who fire these kilns, which is like taming a fiery beast—unpredictable, intense, and demanding both patience and instinct... It gave me a newfound respect for the skill and resilience it takes to transform raw clay into something enduring and beautiful. Thank you again, Brigitte & Svend!
4月1日〜5日、オックスフォードシャーにあるオックスフォードキルンで、人生初の穴窯焚きのお手伝いに行って来ました。
窯詰めの前の日に4時間車を運転してオックスフォードまで！
窯詰めは思ったより大変な作業で、陶芸家ブリジットさんとスベンさんが狭い窯の中で作品を並べている間、私はとにかく目土をせっせと作っていました。これを丸二日間やった後、次の日の早朝にスベンさんが窯焚きをスタート。
それから2泊3日で、煙の様子や薪が燃える音、窯の様子と温度計をチェックしながら休みなく薪くべをします。
朝、テントを建てようと袋を開けたら使えるペグは３本だけ‼️
去年の夏、息子たちが使ってたのを思い出して怒るよりも呆れて大笑い。アクトドアショップが使うにあってよかった…
夜のシフト。
皆が寝静まった中、月明かりの下で窯の音とフクロウの鳴き声を聞きながら薪をくべる。
最後の日、火口を全て塞いだ後の穴窯の不思議に静かな様子。
こう書いていると全てスムーズに運んだように聞こえますが、実はこの窯焚きは強風のため途中でストップしなければならず、次の週に焼き直し(再焼成)したのでした。それには夫君が手伝いに駆け付けました🔥

The famous old cedar trees at the front of Eiheiji, a Zen temple founded by Dōgen Zenji in the 11th century.
It was one of my dreams to visit this ancient Zen temple and experience zazen (meditation) and morning prayer there… though I didn’t realise that meant getting up at 4 in the morning!

長男長女が友達と一緒に参加！
ずっとがんばってトレーニングしていた甲斐があって、皆無事に完走できました！！
娘は大泣き、皆足の指が酷いことになってたり、お腹が痛くなったり、まぁ大変でしたが、一人も抜けることなく笑顔でフィニッシングラインを通過することができて大感動の嵐でした。🌀
走るのが苦手な母からどうやってこの子たちが出来たのか不思議やわ… 笑

+ Baked cheesecake is so much better than no-bake ones, period.
+ Líthica, Pedreres de s’Hostal (quarry) is worth a visit!

メノルカ島 Vol2
大人2人だと素敵なブティックホテルに泊まれるんだよね〜♪
島の真ん中辺りにある小さな街と首都マオンに、同じオーナーが経営するホテルがあって、最後の5日間ステイしました。コンテンポラリーアートがホテル中に飾ってあって楽しい。お部屋も広いし、共有できるスペースでコーヒーやお茶も自分で作れるステキなホテルでした。
ホテルのオーナーに勧められて、
Numa ファウンデーション美術館の「北村ヒロシ展」へ。
ゆっくり鑑賞、二人とも感動。
美術館の場所と建物も素晴らしかった。
個人的にはマオンにある有名な「ハウザー&ワース美術館」よりも、心を動かされた時間でした。
チーズケーキはやなりベイクドが一番やね。(島のカフェで見つけて一人興奮している)
歴史的な採石場所へ。見たことのない深ーく掘られた採石所でビックリしました。
最終日にあまり人気のない岩だらけの入り江までひと泳ぎ。
夫君がまた大喜びして古い洞窟を見ている間、蚊に刺されまくった私でした。(これがまた普通の蚊刺されよりスゴイんです…🦟😱)

And the water was as turquoise blue as can be… wow!
In Ciutadella, I was obsessed with the doors, often in dark green, the brass door latches and the white curtains with delicate hand crafted details… while Robin couldn’t stay away from stone walls (sooo much of them everywhere)

噂どおりの砂浜の美しさと砂の白さと海の透明さに感動🩵
島の西側にある街シウタデラの近くに滞在。
中心街は古い街並みが美しく保存されていて、私は伝統的なドアとカーテンに目が釘付け。夫君は島中にある石壁(自分でも石壁を沢山作ったので)に興味津々でした。
ワインが安くて美味しかった🍷

今年もまた目を離した隙にチェリートマトを野生化させてしまい、ブーブー言いながら片付け作業中。赤いのも採れるけど、グリーンのも沢山採れるのでまたチャットニー作りに励んでます💚
いつも種を買う地元の種屋さんのオーナーと「やっぱり変だよね〜」と話していた「ブルーファイアー」トマト。
仲良しのロビーさんにもらった大きな野生のキノコ。
炒めるとちょこっとになります。美味しかった❤️
