Art & Architecture Uncovered at DAAP and Uptown Campus This week we welcomed arts leaders, educators, and creative advocates from across Ohio through Arts Impact Ohio, a statewide gathering organized by the Ohio Arts Council and centered on professional development, collaboration, and the arts. @ohioartscouncil As part of the program, DAAP hosted “Art & Architecture Uncovered,” an afternoon exploring public art, architecture, creative research, and hands-on learning across the University of Cincinnati campus. Visitors experienced guided tours, sessions in the library and printmaking spaces, and conversations around the role of creativity in education and community impact. The visit highlighted how learning, making, and interdisciplinary collaboration come together every day at DAAP! Video courtesy of Sam Yeganeh @sam_yeganeh_

Students from adjunct instructor Amanda Berg’s class, Collection Management: Registration and Conservation, are exhibiting their Practical Project Assignments in the College of DAAP, Wolfson 6th floor display case. In the spirit of conservation and repairing, the class was tasked with researching, cleaning, and repairing damaged personal item. From antique violin cases to a modern comb, these students repaired their pieces like pros. The exhibit is up through the summer.

Stop by the Tabula Rasa Gallery before May 23 to experience Time Means Nothing To A Stone, a solo exhibition by Bachelor of Fine Arts student Shawn Sweeney. The exhibit honors the memory of Shawn’s father. In his artist statement he writes: This work is made at a pace that resists urgency, spectacle, and demand. It moves slowly, accumulating pressure rather than seeking visibility. Like stone, it carries memory without narration and weight without explanation. I have stripped away voices that do not honor my tempo, my labor, or my psyche. What remains is held by those who held me — the few, the constant, the unseen. This work is made for them and in their honor. It does not ask to be understood immediately or even fully. It asks only to be encountered. Time, here, is not a measure of progress or delay. It is an element the work passes through without submission. Change occurs through endurance. Meaning gathers through staying. Join Shawn for an artist reception May 14, 6-9pm Wolfson 5th floor, College of DAAP.

So I ran into a soul sistah known as @themrsmaxberry at my solo exhibit “Coming of Age | New works in my HAIRitage series”. There, she gifted me with these beautiful earrings and said “welcome to Black Art Speaks”. . While this may seem subtle to most, this meant everything to me: to be gifted by someone I admire while being welcomed into an important organization like @black.art.speaks is so crucial to this time in my life, a time where I also have the support of the @khartscenter is very confirming for all Black women artists everywhere. . Additionally, because this must be said, Adoria and I are among the few class of Black women to be conferred Masters Degrees from the University of Cincinnati @daapsoa where we uphold standards and goals and duties that exceed said degrees; we stand on business, to say the very least. From HBCU @centralstate87 to UC, and beyond, I truly seek to be a vessel in making sure I definitely uphold the gifts given to me by the Creator who has richly blessed me with boundless creativity. . I am now an official oriented member of Cincinnatis greatest arts organization and look forward to use my impact and influence to grow with them. Founded by a dope Black woman by the name of Alandes Powell, with full strategy and vigor, you all need to get to know the masterminds behind the epic Black Lives Matter mural of Cincinnati OH. Peace & love to you all, and more great moments and news to come. #blackartspeaks #blackartmatters #blacklivesmatter #paintingwhileblack #blackgirlmagic
