An immersive film installation on the second floor at the Katoenhuis presents a sequence of intimate scenes, an open invitation for a meditative cinematic experience. In @offscreenrotterdam prelude op @iffr woensdag 21 januari @worm_rotterdam is ook @evant_garde te gast. Na haar master kunst aan de VU, werk bij Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam en EYE is zij voor het tweede jaar @iffr Art Directions-curator. Vanuit de vraag; wat is cinema? zoekt ze hoe film ook sculpturaal kan zijn, naar experimenten met medium zelf, naar filmmakers die nieuwe grenzen verkennen. @iffr Art Directions at Katoenhuis: 3 Scenes from a Marriage by Leopold Emmen (@nanouk_leopold and @daanemmen ), 2026 (Netherlands) – World Premiere (Installation)  What happens when film breaks out of its frame and unfolds as space around you? In Leopold Emmen’s installations, the surroundings, the location and your own gaze shape the story.  For the past 15 years, Nanouk Leopold (director of Wolfsbergen and It’s All So Quiet) and Daan Emmen have been creating tranquil, dreamlike compositions that offer cinematic experiences unbound by time. Their collaboration began with Close-up (IFFR 2009), a six-hour film projected onto Rotterdam’s Hofpoort building. Since then, architecture has taken centre stage in their practice: for Leopold, because of the way location underpins narrative; for Emmen, through optical illusions and spatial interventions.  During IFFR 2026, they present a new installation in three scenes, constructed from reused materials. This reuse resonates with theatre tradition, in which characters are continually reinterpreted. Here, figures move through spaces that shift between interior and film set; walls, ceilings and furniture transform into thresholds, passageways and voids.  There is no linear narrative; as a visitor, you navigate the scenes yourself. Next week, Marres will host the film shoot for The House Where We Used To Live by filmmaker Nanouk Leopold and visual artist Daan Emmen. 🛏️ Part 1: On Friday, 7 November, Nanouk Leopold and Daan Emmen will give you a sneak peek behind the scenes of their film project at Marres, just before filming kicks off the following week. As a visitor, you will take part in the first test takes! 🪞Part 2: On Friday, 14 November, once the cameras have stopped rolling, you can explore the set yourself while they share the stories and insights from the shoot. The film tells the story of two women living together in a house, until one day a large group of strangers enters and decides to stay there as well. The work will be on view at Marres in 2027. Open Call 👁️‍🗨️ Figuranten gezocht In november vinden in Marres de opnames plaats voor The House where we used to live van filmmaker Nanouk Leopold en beeldend kunstenaar Daan Emmen (Leopold Emmen). Hun installaties onderzoeken de grens tussen film en ruimte: geen gewoon scherm, maar een ervaring die je fysiek omringt. Voor dit nieuwe werk (te zien in 2027 bij Marres) zoeken we figuranten van alle leeftijden. De opnames zijn op woensdag 12 nov 2025 in Maastricht. Twee vrouwen wonen in een huis, tot er plots een grote groep onbekenden intrekt. De scènes zijn abstract en zonder dialoog – denk aan liggen alsof iedereen slaapt, samen op de trap zitten of bewegen door een gang. Wil je meedoen? 🎥 Maak een zelf-tape van max. 3 min (liefst zonder make-up) waarin je jezelf voorstelt. Samen opnemen mag ook. For this new work (on view in 2027), we are looking for extras of all ages. Filming: Nov 12, 2025. Two women live in a house, until one day a large group of strangers moves in. The scenes are abstract and without dialogue – you might lie on the floor as if asleep, sit on the stairs, or move through a hallway. Interested? 🎥 Create a self-tape (max. 3 mins), preferably without makeup, in which you introduce yourself. You can also tape together with someone else.
