“Children [at Dar Niki Cassar] are not just passing through. Sometimes they are living there, day in, day out, and they deserve so much more, so we are giving them a space that feels their own,” says Daniel Abela, founder of @childreninneedfoundation who turned to long-time collaborators @daaahaus for the design of this new wing for homeless children within the @ymca_malta shelter. Lead Interior Architect Stefania Mercieca tells us about its design concept rooted in giving kids joy and comfort when they need it most. Read the full story at the link in bio @designdispatch.mt

Some spaces stop you in your tracks. Chronolith is one of them.
A pavilion of stone, light, and time, now standing at one of Milan’s most iconic courtyards. Watch it come to life.
Come and experience it in person at the Università degli Studi di Milano, Cortile d’Onore, until 30 April 2026.

Our Milan Design Week highlight.
We celebrated Chronolith with the people who believed in it from the start. Connections made, words shared, and a little piece of Malta in the heart of Milan.
Thank you for being part of it. 🖤
It’s happening.
Chronolith is being presented at the Università degli Studi di Milano as part of INTERNI Materiae during Milan Design Week.

The pavilion begins as a precise composition of lines, where geometry, proportion, and alignment establish the logic of the space. A circular form anchors the project, organised around a central point from which movement unfolds gradually, guiding the body through moments of compression and release, shadow and light. What appears simple is carefully orchestrated, allowing the architecture to be experienced as a sequence rather than an object. Before it is inhabited, it is understood through drawing.
In this conversation, Keith Pillow, Founder and Creative Director of DAAA Haus, reflects on the thinking behind Chronolith, exploring architecture as something to be felt rather than explained. He speaks of stone not simply as a material, but as a carrier of memory, and of time not as something to measure, but as something to notice. Chronolith emerges as an experience of slowness, where light, space, and presence come together in quiet continuity.
A shared vision. Chronolith is a collaboration between DAAA Haus and Recobel by Halmann Vella.
Bringing together architecture, material innovation, and a shared understanding of stone as both legacy and future.

A space designed for every hour of the day.
In this project, the challenge was to create an interior that feels calm and inviting in the morning, yet lively and refined in the evening. Natural textures, greenery, and neutral tones build a relaxed atmosphere, while the lighting and the Nero Marquina marble bar introduce a stronger identity after sunset. A balance between functionality, comfort, and contemporary design.

From morning coffee to evening aperitivo.
Nu Caffè was conceived as a flexible space that adapts to different moments of the day. Warm materials, soft neutral colors, and natural light create a welcoming daytime atmosphere, while layered lighting transforms the space into a vibrant yet elegant bar at night. The custom Nero Marquina marble bar stands as the focal point, adding depth and character to the interior.

Nu Caffè was designed as a space that shifts naturally throughout the day. Located in the heart of St. Julians, the project balances functionality and atmosphere, creating a cosy café during the day and an elegant aperitivo bar at night. Neutral tones, natural materials, greenery, and carefully planned lighting shape the mood, while the custom Nero Marquina marble bar becomes the bold centrepiece that anchors the entire space. A versatile environment where comfort, style, and daily life meet.

Key elements from the original Fuwamai shop were adapted to suit Valletta’s historic setting. The facade is finished in a monochromatic Fuwamai blue, a signature colour that stands out against the surrounding shop fronts while fitting within the streetscape.
