Ki Ade Pe Lori I
2025
A self-portraitwearing a crown, symbolizing how some of us choose to claim our royal roots even when they feel distant.
This body of work comes from my ongoing journey of understanding where I come from and what royalty means within my Yoruba heritage.
In Yoruba culture, anyone with “Ade” in their name carries a trace of royalty, but many of us can no longer trace where that royalty began. I find myself in that
same space, holding on to the thread of a royal past that I can’t fully see, yet still
feel deeply connected to.
This work was part of my just concluded solo exhibition.

HERE…STILL
A Debut Solo Exhibition by Adeoti Azeez Afeez.
Wednesday 5th November - Sunday 16th November | 3PM
Clay, memory, and heritage converge in Adeoti Azeez Afeez’s latest body of work, where Yoruba traditions are carved, etched, and reimagined through his signature sgraffito technique.
Presented by URU, this exhibition at MILIKI invites viewers to experience clay as they’ve never seen it before, alive with texture, narrative, and emotion.
This exhibition promises to be a visual and cultural experience not to be missed!
Proudly sponsored by The Macallan.
The labour is part of the story.
The repetition, the carving of the story into clay.
The lino cut holds the first language before fire transforms it.
A glimpse into the new works for my solo exhibition this November in Lagos, Nigeria.
Exploring Yoruba royalty, ancestry, and memories.
Exhibition opens Wednesday 5th of November 2025.

I’m happy to announce my first solo exhibition “HERE…STILL” happening this November at URU Incubator by Miliki, Victoria Island from 5th to 16th November 2025.
This body of work reflects on Yoruba royalty, ancestral presence and the way identity continues through time… even in transition, even in change, even in silence — we are still here.
This moment means so much to me and I cannot wait to share this journey, this story, and these clay forms with you all. 🤎✨

As part of their research journey in the ÚRÙ Incubator, a programme initiated by Miliki (@miliki.ng ) to empower emerging Nigerian artists through creativity, professional growth, and community engagement, Ojooluwatide Ojo (@ojooluwatide_ ) and Adeoti Azeez (@d.clay.guy ) visited the G.A.S. Library and Picton Archive as part of their exploration of artistic research.
G.A.S. alumna Amanda Iheme (@amandaiheme ), who has been mentoring them led the visit. Tomiwa Adegbola (@tomiiwaa ), Projects Coordinator at G.A.S., guided them through the library and archives, where they stayed to further engage with the collection, deepening their understanding of archival materials and advancing their research.

This piece from The Blue Portraits series is one of the works I created during my two-month residency in Jingdezhen, China. It bridges Yoruba heritage and Chinese ceramic artistry, blending tradition with personal narrative.
Using qinghua (cobalt blue) and Scraffito techniques, I’ve captured an image of my brother, layering intricate patterns and textures to explore identity, presence, and cultural dialogue. This work honors the beauty of craftsmanship, memory, and the deep connections that shape who we are

Back home and reflecting on an unforgettable two-month journey in Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital. This residency was a gift—exploring ancient Chinese techniques, blending them with my Yoruba heritage, and pushing my creative boundaries with new materials.
Beyond the work, it was the people who made this experience so special. Grateful to have shared this time with such talented artists: @suzannewangceramics , @garycard , @jokenoordstrand , @paperclayceramics , @osval_fuentes ,@agavearts_nm@felicithas_arndt , @javier_wijnants , and @zhaopi86 Your creativity and energy truly inspired me!
Excited to channel all I’ve learned into new work—more clay to scratch, more stories to tell. Here’s to the beauty of collaboration and discovery.
