IN THE QUIET OF REPAIR: Ojooluwatide’s Threads of Matrilineal Repair Ojooluwatide Ojo’s practice has long been a vessel for reflection - on memory, ritual, and the subtle gestures that shape personal and collective histories. Her recent exhibition, In the Quiet of Repair, held at Wunika Mukan Gallery, was a quiet, meditative exploration of matrilineal heritage, familial memory, and the rituals of socialisation and care. Drawing from the lives of the women before her, as well as her own journey, Ojo invited viewers into a world where repair - emotional, cultural, and spiritual - takes center stage. Through this intimate body of work, Ojo re-examined history within the unit of her family, using it as a lens to reflect on the evolving values, priorities, and identity of the city around her. The exhibition offered a tender homage to the past and present, even as it gestured toward the possibility of a reimagined future. For us, Ojo's pieces evoked memory, erosion, and the passage of time. Layer by layer, Ojo’s process mimicked the slow, intentional labour of keeping both home and self intact. In the Quiet of Repair revealed that healing is often quiet. It resides in the unseen gestures passed down through generations - stitched into fabric, embedded in memory, and held together by the resilience of women who mend what cannot be replaced. Deep dive into chaos. It’s my language about creating at this time. Release. I am seeing more how chaos and calm are one and the same. Pretty little flower. Feeling #blue.

Her latest exhibition at @wunikamukangallery titled - ‘In the Quiet of Repair’ is a meditative exploration of heritage, memory, socialization, rituals and culture, especially through the lens of the women before her, as well as herself. Warning: may contain extreme creativity and questionable snacking. #inthequietofrepair 🪡🧵 We followed Ojooluwatide Ojo (@ojooluwatide_ ) for a peek behind the paint splattered curtains. Turns out it involves a lot of ladders, some serious concentration, and a few accidental paint tattoos 😅🫟 #dayinthelife #ojooluwatideojo #wunikamukangallery #muralartist #contemporaryart

What a privilege it is to live fast; to fall in love slowly; to enjoy yourself and your process; to build your life brick by brick, some crumbling and being replaced with even stronger bricks; to work with people who want to work with you; to create what you simply must and be unapologetic about it; to support and be supported completely; what at privilege it is to be anything at all. What a privilege this whole show has been. I am beyond grateful to @wunikamukangallery and to my friends and family. The show will be open till the 30th of June; please come see when you can, let’s have a chat. #soloexhibition #somethingnew #artinlagos #wunikamukangallery #ojooluwatideojo #loveyourfamily
