CynCity Productions begins filming our first feature film, Fried Catfish, written by Inda Craig-Galván, starring Cynthia Kaye McWilliams, Terri J. Vaughn, Anthony Fleming III, Malcolm Barrett and Ayana Bria Bakari. To get her suffocating ex-husband, Cornelius “Cornbread” Brooks, off her back, control-freak restaurant manager, Veronica Brooks, decides to find him a new girlfriend online. The only problem? The girlfriend is her. When Cornbread won’t stop clinging, she doesn’t file for divorce—she creates the perfect distraction. By posing online as “Nikki,” his dream woman, she finally gets some peace. It’s the perfect, victimless crime... until Cornelius falls head-over-heels for her fictional creation and wants to meet her in person. Now, Veronica is trapped in a web of her own making, forced to drag her friends and coworkers into an increasingly ridiculous scheme involving fake profiles, burner phones, and maybe a little light pimping. As the lies spiral out of her control, she realizes the mess she’s created isn’t just about her ex’s neediness—it’s a mirror of her own. To save her relationships, her sanity, and her dignity, she’ll have to stop trying to run the world and start facing the woman in the mirror. FRIED CATFISH is a hilarious and biting take on a traditional rom-com that isn’t about the girl getting the guy, but rather the girl learning how to be her own woman and accepting that the only person you can truly control is yourself.
