As I have probably told you, if I weren't working I'd be riding and running Cycle4Sarc full time. It is my passion project, my hobby of the heart. I take every aspect of it seriously, and I want to succeed at every aspect of it. But, I do know when it is time to experiment a little, try something new, and see how it goes without being too critical of myself and my work. So, here it is! The first ever Cycle4Sarc 2026 shirt!
A huge special thank you to Tracy Barnhart and the crew at C&O Bicycle in Hancock, MD, for their exclusive cycling sponsorship. We'll be stopping there on Day 3 of the ride and can't wait to get a tune-up at the shop.
Gerry and I are training hard and are getting ready for the ride of a lifetime. We are looking for some beautiful views, great conversation, and most importantly - making a positive impact on those who are fighting Sarcoidosis.
Best wishes and see you out on the C&O and GAP trails in June. R

April is Sarcoidosis Awareness Month. It is also my birth month. Each year I reflect on the gift of existence. My survival has been made possible by my family, friends, medical team, Sparky (my ICD), and all of the amazing people at the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research. Please take the time to Say, See, and @stopsarcoidosis . Ultimately that will lead to the most important S, that we Save lives impacted by Sarcoidosis. That's why I have started Cycle4Sarc, to ease the financial burden of those who need to travel for treatment. Please consider supporting our mission and helping to say, see, stop and save. See the link in my bio.
This April, please remember to honor all of those who have, are, and will continue to battle this horrible disease.

Another year, another opportunity to talk about all things cycling and sarcoidosis with John Carlin. Taking the time to talk with John always reminds me why I do what I do. I enjoy the Big Rides, but it is the Bigger Mission that matters most. There are so many Sarcoidosis patients who are suffering financially because they have to travel for treatment. Talking with John about it helps me realize that I am doing the right work. Building awareness is sometimes slow and difficult, just like long distance cycling! But I'm not going anywhere: I'm in it for the long haul.

This summer will mark 10 years since #Sarcoidosis changed my life. To honor it and continue the fight, I am determined to help change the lives of people who now battle Sarcoidosis a life changing #autoimmune disease. Along with the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research @stopsarcoidosis , I am #cycling 335 miles from Pittsburgh to Washington DC to raise awareness - and much needed funding - to support any Sarcoidosis patient who is suffering financially because they need to #travelfortreatment. Every dollar counts. Please consider making a donation - /Team/View/172803/Cycle4Sarc

Tomorrow is World Rare Disease Day. As a #sarcoidosis #survivor I take pride in recognizing and supporting others who are walking an often lonely path. #raredisease #patients are a special mix of optimism and resilience and they value the opportunity to share their stories. A few dedicated student groups at Upstate sponsored an amazing panel of medical, scientific and patient voices focused on celebrating the progress we've made and how much further we need to go. @stopsarcoidosis@nord_rare@rarediseasedayofficial
Training starts now. June 8 to 12, 2026. 335 miles from Pittsburgh to DC. As I always say, big rides need a bigger mission. If you'd like to donate, the link is in my bio.
It may be cold and snowy, but I am planning for warmer days and bigger dreams. Five years ago today, I had my fifth heart surgery and a biliteral sympathectomy (cardiac denervation). It saved my life and motivated me to pay it forward.
This summer I will be taking on my longest and most difficult ride yet. But the mission is the same: to ensure that no Sarcoidosis patient has to struggle financially to travel for treatment.
From June 7 through 12, 2026, GB and I will be riding 335 miles from Pittsburgh PA to Washington DC on the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Trails.
We need your help! Please consider making a contribution to my Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research (FSR) campaign: /Team/View/172803/Cycle4Sarc
As always, I am grateful for each and every one of you. While I am now doing great and paying it forward, I'll never forget how supportive all of you were when I was most in need.
What a wonderful night to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research @stopsarcoidosis So many bright minds in the field of #sarcoidosis #research and #fundraising. I am so proud of the staff at FSR for organizing such an inspirational event. And it was so rewarding to see @thesarcfighter@john_p_carlin and to meet @therealjeryl . Thank you for all you both are doing to raise awareness and fight for others.

I am #riding in the #FSR 100-mile #cycling #challenge and I am making progress! It's Day 15 and I am 70 miles toward my goal of 100 miles in the month of October. Who else is riding to defeat #sarcoidosis with @stopsarcoidosis ? How is it going?
