Here are some shots from my 2022 installation “And You Were There Too”. This show was deeply personal, inspired by childhood memories of my Lebanese Grandmother(my Sitto) as well as queer connections to The Wizard of Oz and general themes of portals, magic, dreams, fantasy and care. This was up for a short run at CSULB and I am currently working on more work inspired by these themes. I would love to show this work again and for a longer period. It was so magical getting to watch people interact with the work, especially the piece “Close Your Eyes and Open Your Hands”. This was something my Sitto used to say to me and my brother whenever she would give us a gift. I wanted viewers to have that same experience, so they were invited to work with a partner and take turns receiving one of the gifts (the diploma, heart watch, and badge of courage). By inviting viewers in on this ritual I hoped that they felt cared fire and honored. I always love when we are allowed to touch art ❤️💙💚💛🌈 This show was truly a group effort, thank you to everyone who helped support and install this with me.

Sitto’s Sewing Room TV, 2022 *vinyl fabric, screen printing, pollyfill and LED lights. Since everyone is in their Wizard of Oz feels because of Wicked, I felt called to share some work I made a few years ago inspired by my favorite film, and my Sitto. I made this soft sculpture based on a childhood memory I have of learning to sew with my Sitto. She had an old 90s TV mounted up in the corner of the room and the Wizard of OZ was playing while she taught me to sew on the same machine I used to make this recreation of that object. We both loved the movie, and it is symbolism. I screen printed the image in reverse on clear vinyl , stuffed the sculpture with pollyfill and light it up to enhance the feeling of a glowing TV projecting a symbol of magic, power and protection. This was the first piece I made as part of an instillation called “And You Were There Too” I’ll be sharing more from that soon ❤️🌈📺

@candohando and I finally got to go to a screening at @oldtownmusichall and it was even better than I expected! We saw Stage Struck, a 1925 Gloria Swanson comedy with LIVE ACCOMPANIMENT on the mighty Wurlitzer, a gigantic 100 year old organ that plays all the instruments in an orchestra!! This is now one of my favorite places in LA, and the world! You must visit! They have incredible programming and I can not recommend it enough!

Yesterday I had the honor of hosting a poster-making workshop at @theautry during the opening reception for their annual student art exhibition! Here are some of the beautiful posters people made at my booth. The theme of the art exhibition is “Visions of Humanity” and I encouraged participants to create a personal message inspired by that theme. I am so impressed and inspired by what everyone made!
