Did you know that LGBTQ representation in TV, film, and print was HEAVILY connected to advertisers desires in the 1990s and this still shapes a lot of what we see today? Did you know butches, trans women, drag queens, and leather men were essentially barred from being included in advertising campaigns and in TV because they were not seen as accessible to straight people or commodifiable?
I teach a class at UCLA about lesbian and trans film and TV in the summer - there is way too much to get into lol BUT I just thought I’d share a little bit about this history to talk about why @butchisnotadirtyword is such an important project.

Married my best friend @currycheeks on Sunday and it was the most beautiful and truly wild day that I’m still reliving and processing.
I’ll share more pics / thoughts later but just wanted to share some of the special moments. Rachel’s vows, the way everyone looked and greeted us at the ceremony, Josie’s speech, the choreographed Romy and Michelle inspired family dance to Time after Time, Nadine catching my dream granting bouquet that ricocheted off a 4 foot disco ball and into her arms, and all the gay screaming and yodeling that accompanied it all will be forever burned in my heart in the best way.

I am so happy that I’ve started doing some contract work for @juliens_auctions as a music and drum specialist and I had the honor of processing some of Freddie Mercury’s possessions. These lyrics and clothes were originally sold at the Sotheby’s Freddie Mercury auction in 2023 and were put up personally by Mary Austin, his bff who he left his fortune to. She hoped that the items would be an opportunity to “share all the many facets of Freddie both public and private, for the world to understand more about and celebrate his unique and beautiful spirit.” 🥹💖❤️

I just had to share some highlights from my research day at @mazerlesbianarchives last week. Im working on a story for a new publication that I’ve never written for and I’m so excited to share this with you all!
On Our Backs (SF, CA 1984-2006) was such an amazing publication - the first lesbian 🌽 mag by and for the community! Stripper funded in its first few years! With d ÿ k 3 / queer drama and love and messiness and commitment fueling it all the way! The Mazer has almost the whole collection. This also made me so nostalgic for reading the old Personals text only ads on IG circa 2017-2019 they were originally inspired by On Our Backs. There are so many pics I can’t include here but wow what a fun, sexy, and groundbreaking publication! Honored to be working on a story about it.
You can email the Mazer to make an appointment to read their OOB collection at the archive it’s so easy and they are very nice and excited to share their materials! Even if you’re not an academic / journalist researcher you can go to an archive to learn - idk if anyone tells you that if you’re outside the ivory tower system but it’s true!

People who know me from rock camp know I always had a clip board at every showcase. I think I learned this from watching Mona and Becky at LA camp, but every time I have a *big gig*™️ I use a clip board for my paper copies of agendas, questions, etc. idk why but it makes me feel grounded like being behind a drum kit- like there’s something that can help me steer a giant ship LOL.
USC’s Visions and Voices (@uscvandv ) Punk For The People was such a legendary event that I’m so honored to have been a part of!
It was so powerful to be able to help these four legends share stories about how they used punk as a tool to create movements fueled by music, as someone who has been deeply impacted by their work. And also it was great to see many loved ones and meet so many brilliant and cool people at the gig.
I’m so grateful to @daria.yud for including me! And that rock camp organically came up in convo. What a beautiful full circle evening for so many of us! 💖

Punk for the People, Vol. 2 was monumental! Over 800 people joined us Tuesday night to hear punk legends @mskathleenhanna , Bruce LaBruce, @martincrudo , and @spoonersnofun talk about Riot Grrrl, queercore, Latino hardcore, and Afropunk. These movements were built out of necessity, and they still have the power to create change today.
