In 1986, 3 punk-rock women on the U-M Diag unknowingly made cultural history in the two-minute Super 8 film "Skate Witches."
Nearly 40 years later, the film has landed in the Smithsonian to help document skateboarding as both a sport and a cultural movement.
We spoke with co-star Dana Forrester, who is now the owner of several local tattoo shops, about the experience.

Check out the new "Table Manners:" exhibit at the @UMMAmuseum
The exhibit invites viewers to bring food and drink into the gallery and share an intimate dining experience with the individuals on-screen for an unspoken exchange. The intention is to challenge our assumptions about identity and culture while turning an everyday act into something personal and profound.
The free and open to the public exhibit is on display now through January 4th, 2026
