🌿Intention of Terrarium Artist Residency: We created this studio in 2024, in a political and social climate defined by intense hostility toward the trans* and queer community. We wanted to create a studio for us by us, a place that feels chill but also allows artists to keep working on their projects. We love artists and we want to support your practice 🐝🐝 ~provide 2SQT-BIPOC artists with 2 months of free studio space in shared queer art studio  ~offer creative mentorship, support with artistic goals and projects  ~provide material stipend to purchase supplies to support project or exploration during residency ~provide a creative container and structure to complete self-directed projects and or explore new mediums and take creative risks  ((T* = inclusive of all gender diverse identities)) Eligibility: ~ emerging or mid- career 2SQT-BIPOC artist  ~ can demonstrate dedication to their artistic practice  ~ have a self- directed project or vision for exploration  ~ would benefit from access to studio space  ~ under -financed, under -resourced, low income  ~ artist living in Toronto GTA  (we currently do not have the resources to house or provide accommodations to international and visiting artists). 🪴Terrarium is located in west end of Toronto - near Dundas West station. 🐜🐜🐜 If you have any questions about the residency or the studio please DM us! Also if you do not want to engage with the google form, we can email you a document with the questions. This residency is made possible by our 2026 fundraiser efforts. Thank you to everyone who supported our fundraising events. 🌵🌳🌴Note* The studio is up a flight of stairs with a railing and has single use washroom.

🌿🐜 Terrarium is hosting @_ravenative_ and @pjliveira MAY 14th! 7pm to 11pm Terrariums’s Earth Punks invite you to come and resonate with us in collaborative sound making to open the night, followed by live performances by @_ravenative_ Ariel Orah presents Hanomann_O, an audiovisual live performance built from a growing archive of melancholic pop, dangdut-inspired songs, karaoke videos, text works, and political reflections developed across several years of artistic practice. Often considered one of the signature forms of Indonesian contemporary mainstream music, dangdut emerged through a complex historical synthesis of vernacular cultures of the Indonesian archipelago, Malay, Indian, Arab, and Western influences shaped through trade, migration, and colonialism. For Orah, the project functions as both personal memory and research interface, investigating extractive economies, geopolitical conflict, ecological crisis, migration, and the erosion of trust within today’s polycrisis. Placing voice at the forefront and working through an experimental electronics approach, Hanomann_O searches for the melancholiness and cheesiness within experimental electronic sound itself. The performance connects Orah’s background in sound art and visual archives with the diversified vernacular aesthetics of childhood and early life, framing the identity turbulence of living in diaspora for nearly half a lifetime. Moving beyond stereotypes of dangdut as merely kitschy or sentimental, the work reveals its potential as a sharp, emotional, and politically charged cultural language. + @pjliveira Pedro Oliveira presents DESTERRO  (noun, Portuguese: expulsion from a homeland; exile; solitude) an ongoing research on and poetic-technical exploration of contiguity as the withdrawal of consent to integrate, and of non-causality as an ethics of listening.

🪲NEW ARTIST RESIDENCE at TERRARIUM! We super excited to introduce you to Akash @akashinbakumar they will spending this fall working on new work for an upcoming exhibition in 2026. Akash is one of our favourite artists in the city and we are honoured to have them in the studio and support their practice. 🪲🪲🪲🪲🪲🪲🪲🪲🪲🪲 🕸️Akash Inbakumar is an artist and workshop facilitator based in Toronto. Their interdisciplinary practice uses installation, costumes, and performance to explore ideas of world-building, mythology, and kinship; entering partnerships with multiple mediums, tools, and processes, they conceive material-kin. These kin represent a world where craft objects play the role of carrying family lineage and storyteller, compared to the colonial west’s nuclear family. Queering how information can be passed down multi-generational/multi-specie networks. Inbakumar graduated from OCAD University in 2020 with a BFA in Material Art and Design and continued their textile studies at Kawashima Textile School (Kyoto) in 2023. They have shown work in Canada and abroad: Articule (Montréal), Kyoto City Art Museum, Textilmuseet Borås (Sweden), Art Gallery of Burlington, ArtAdress (Oakville) The Robert Mclaughlin Gallery (Oshawa), Artscape Gibraltar Point (Toronto), Patel Brown Gallery (Toronto), and Xpace Cultural Center (Toronto). They are currently a resident at Terrarium (Toronto and have an upcoming solo exhibition at Craft Ontario (2026).
