What is commonly known as a rose and its head, on the rocky shelves of Jabal Akhdar, the Rock Rose is a womb that births something akin to magic.
The slopes are home to 7,000 rose bushes, scattered around 90 rose orchards, where the harvesters and their families reside. Elders pass on centuries-old traditions to the next generation, as children splash around in the falaj dancing and giggling, like young rose buds in the making.
The harvest is gingerly escorted to distillation units that honour an age-old practice under the careful guardianship of Mr Ahmed, where several tons of flowers pass through quality checks and hours of a highly technical steam-distillation procedure. The final gift is the purest expression of the Rock Rose, the rose oil - an elixir of the Green Mountains.
