I’d like to talk about my awesome friend, Kara if I may. Kara was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer late September of 2024. She began her chemo October of 2024, had a Double mastectomy with reconstruction and 16 lymph nodes removed March of 2025
She had radiation in May of 2025. The path forward with her doctors included hormone blocking therapy and immunotherapy started in July of 2025 and will be her continued treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering for the next several years. But wait - there’s more! She also got her fallopian tubes removed in January of 2026 because she is high risk for ovarian cancer as well. This surgery greatly reduces Kara’s risk.
Meanwhile, she found time to Stand By for Sutton Foster in Once Upon a Mattress on Broadway. Create the role of Michele in Off Broadway’s Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion AND do several concerts all over the world for Disney Theatricals. Oh and did I mention she is also a Mom to an adorable 6 year old named Emerson with husband, Kevin Massey.
Kara and I met while doing Wicked together at the Gershwin and became instant friends. I had been a fan for a long time after seeing her in Newsies on Broadway and was so excited to get the opportunity to work with her. Wicked also sent us overseas together to Hannover Germany to represent the United States at the Hannover Messe right when Matt and I had started our relationship and the three of us have been friends ever since.
I have always been proud to know you and proud to call you a friend. Your ability to overcome it all with humor and openness is something to behold and it inspires me every day to live life to the fullest and be grateful for every moment.
So. Last year you presented fellow thriver and Broadway star, Krysta Rodriguez with our first ever award. And this year I have the incredible honor of presenting you with our 2nd ever Fighting Flamingo Award for Dignity and Courage. I love you and thank you for being you and showing us the true meaning of what it means to be human.
WE DID IT!!! We raised an INSANE amount of money last night. We have so many big plans for the future…but for now…

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what it means to keep showing up for your life when your body and your dreams are both asking a lot from you. Nights like this hit differently. Thank you to @eaglemethod for having me as her VIP guest. I am so grateful for you and our friendship.
there’s something quietly powerful about sitting in a room full of people choosing vulnerability on purpose. @mattdeangelis22 & @cteendryer you both inspire me beyond words. It was also incredibly special to witness the gorgeous @karalindsay1 receive the Fighting Flamingo Award for her bravery and courage 🦩The evening reminded me I don’t have to be fully “put together” to keep creating, dreaming, singing, being in the room and on the stage.

Tonight at The Janice Jam
As someone who just lost one of my really good friends to cancer, this night hit in a completely different way. It was so meaningful, so beautiful, and so full of heart.
A reminder that even in grief, we can come together to celebrate life, honor the people we’ve lost, and keep fighting for something bigger.
So grateful to have been in a room that’s not only filled with love, but actively making a difference through cancer research.
And hearing Cassadee Pope sing “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” live… something I’ll never forget.
