The sun rises everyday with hope for peace. The Nightingale sings all night through the darkness calling for love and justice. The national bird of Iran spends its life on the ground protecting its nest and eggs, not flying around hunting and killing in foreign lands. 🦅 No war with Iran. 🕊🇮🇷

FREE DC. 🥪👚 It's time to free DC from military occupation, authoritarian control, and ICE abductions in our communities. Oh, and if you dont know what time it is, look up DC sandwich guy. He stood up when we needed a hero and then sat back down so DC could rise up. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Climate change exacerbates existing health inequalities, with frontline communities often bearing the brunt of environmental hazards like pollution, extreme weather events, and resource scarcity. Climate justice aims to ensure that everyone has access to a healthy environment and equitable healthcare, regardless of their socioeconomic status, race, or location. Take a deep dive into everything Medicare, Medicaid, and rural health in southwestern Pennsylvania in the latest blog by Gavyn Marincheck, Community Organizer for CJA member group @coalfldjustice /2025/03/human-services-medicare-medicaid/ Artwork by @csrmxt César Maxit. The poster is part of the Regenerative Economy Poster Portfolio, a collaborated with 15 movement artists who translated the fifteen policy planks from the People’s Orientation to a Regenerative Economy into poster art Artist statement: A storm looms, representing healthcare crises we all may face. Rain and paint drips symbolize tears and blood, reminders of the grave stakes of life’s fragility. A nurse helps an injured man rise while holding the red umbrella of universal healthcare. Nearby, a healer calls them toward a community clinic’s safety. The waterproof sticker reveals the call for action: healthcare that covers everybody. We can support each other through our most vulnerable moments with an umbrella for the entire country.

Today marks 1 month since we revealed The Knickerbocker Memorial sculpture in Adams Morgan. It stands on the corner of 18th St & Columbia Rd NW at the site of the old Knickerbocker Theatre. The sculpture is dedicated to our neighbors and visitors who lost their lives, were injured, or came to the rescue when the Knickerbocker Theatre roof collapsed in the snowstorm of January 28, 1922. Neighbors for the Knickerbocker Memorial organized a centennial commemoration where our community gathered, researchers, historians, and descendants spoke and the names of those 98 who lost their lives were read.  I designed the instrument to have no strings and titled the sculpture "The Silent Violin." A short artist statement on the back says: The orchestra for the silent film playing at the Knickerbocker Theatre that night was missing too many musicians who were snowed in by the storm.  The conductor, determined to have the show go on, called on renowned first violinist Joseph Beal, who lived nearby but wasn't scheduled to play since he had been married just four days earlier. Joseph played his violin that night until the music of those 98 lives went silent. This neighborhood that I love is notoriously difficult to please, so I was nervous to unveil a large sculpture on a prominent corner. I'm happy to say it has been very well received and it seems any detractors have thought it wise to keep quiet. The single complaint is from the lawyers representing Truist Bank that owns the property where the violin was placed. We have now moved it onto the public sidewalk where I hope it can stay a little longer—  ideally for the whole centennial year or until a permanent memorial can be installed. I want to thank Nancy Shia and Sandra Reischel for organizing the event, Debbie Chambers for sharing her research, Chris Anderson for help with construction, Shedrick Pelt for photographing (photo of me included in this post), Erik Blodnikar for audio, Roy Hill for playing live at the event, and Eddie Becker, DCFD Engine Company 21, and DC Humanities Truck for their support. You can find more photos, including from 1922, & info at the memorial website knickerbockermemorial.com (link in bio)

“Streetpaper” is like wallpaper but painted on the street. Artist statement for the school children of Bancroft Elementary: Inspiration for the design can all be found nearby. The leaves and acorns represent the Chestnut Oak trees, also known as Rock Oak because they like to grow in rocky areas such as Rock Creek Park. The Oyster mushrooms grow on the Oak trees that have fallen or died. The mushrooms use powerful enzymes to break down the hardwood and create new soil for plants and new trees. The arrow pattern pays homage to the Nacotchtank people that used a rock quarry near here in Rock Creek Park to make arrowheads. “Aro” means ring or hoop in Spanish but in English can be pronounced “arrow.”  The interlocking arrows represent the four cardinal directions and the right of all people to move and migrate. The overall colors and composition was an attempt to balance a fun joyful design for school children and respect for the timeless beauty of the local architecture. The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) created “curb extensions” as a “tactical safety improvment. Now pedestrians have an extended space where they are protected from oncoming traffic, and vehicles have to take sharper and slower turns. U.S. plastics policy is a dumpster fire. 🚚🗑🔥 There's been a dumpster fire on tour in DC this week to call out Biden on failing to join the rest of G7 plus over 120 other countries in support of a global plastics treaty. Instead the U.S. continues to export plastic waste to global south countries. The @EPAgov should ban incineration of plastic and stop permits for new fossil fuel plastic facilities. Act now bit.ly/2SUA3Hu #globalplastictreaty #plasticfree #zerowaste #plasticpollution #breakfreefromplastic #dumpsterfire Thanks for helping @ricasmadrid @newsyllabus @crickwall2020

The Keystone XL "black snake" pipeline is finally dead. ☠ We've celebrated it's death before but the zombie pipeline had to be defeated over and over again to really bury it for good. The day has finally come, and I hope it brings hope and resolve to all the new fossil fuel fighters. ✊ In those 10 years of fighting the KXL I worked with my team to create tons of banners, posters, street art, tshirts, sculptures, and more. I helped organize protests, marches, parties, and demos. All those years of work and the thing that is most amazing to me is just the numbers of people that it took. How many times people from across the country to action to fight together. How many people wrote letters, committed civil disobedience, travelled to DC, and marched. Just incredible to be part of such an amazing movement for climate justice. Congrats my people! 🥳🎉🙌 #climatejustice #climatechange #climateaction #civildisobedience #kxł #nokxl #kxlpipeline #climate #fossilfuels #climateart #protestart #dcart

Big congrats to the workers and organizers that have been striking and marching for years for this day. Today Biden announced an executive order to raise the minimum wage to $15 for everyone working for federal contractors. This will raise the wage for about 5 million workers, including tipped U.S. contract workers currently making $7.65 per hour. Huge success for @ourrevolution . We had already successfully pushed Obama to raise contractor pay to $10.10 in 2014 with @goodjobsnation . Now this new minimum will go into effect next year and then keep going up with inflation. It was a hard fought victory and over the years I was able to play a small part by helping with messaging, design, deployments, and production of banners, flags, posters, and props. @ourrevolutiondc #fightfor15 #raisethewage #stencil #dcart #mayday #minimumwage #unionsforall #unionstrong #unionyes #15andaunion #goodjibsforall #thankyoubernie #berniesanders #notmeus #ourrevolution 💲1️⃣5️⃣🇺🇸

What is it? People have questions, here's my final answer 😉 it's just art, it's a cloud, it's not very heavy, mostly air with a thin wire shell. I was happy living without a car #bikelife, but then I was hired by a coalition of environmental and consumer rights organizations to conceive of and build a sculpture on a car that would deliver signed petitions to Ford headquarters in Detroit. We were calling on Ford to stop working with Trump on rolling back clean fuel standards set by Obama. I worked hard and fast with friends to make the prop in 1 week. It was a black smoke/smog cloud coming out of a 2nd tailpipe. It even had a remote controlled smoke machine in the trunk coming out of a 3rd tailpipe for extra effect on the trip. See pic 10.. Eventually the car came back to DC and became a family car, and I had to cut off the tail so I could parallel park in the city (and so people would stop calling it a rat, lol) Later I painted it white, because who wants to live with a dark cloud always hanging over their head? (people started calling it an igloo, lol) Last week I fixed up the cloud with some friends after an unfortunate drive-thru accident and decided a new paint job was needed. I decided a sunset theme would go well with the cloud and it was a good choice cause my daughter loves it. ☁️🚗 #admo #admoart #adamsmorgan #dcart #dc #dcartist #cloudcar #sunsetcloud #sculpture #fiberglass #dirtycar #dirtycloud #dirtyford #cleanfuelstandard #cleancar #climate #dmv #whatisit #justart #keepdcweird

"No taxation without representation." Political principle, battle cry, DC license plate slogan. DC becoming the 51st state is looking possible and I want to celebrate with a look at a mural I painted last year for the Mayor's 51 murals for statehood project #muralsDC51. I had been approached by Art @blackloveisart about letting him paint a mural with me, and since I already knew how hard it is to break into mural painting for an artist, I made him an offer. If you model for the new mural and help me design and paint it, I'll split the pay with you. So we came up with and painted this mural having secured permission from @youarelovedtag to use his famous tag on the face mask. Notice the heart on his art is always black because "as a black man, black love is the only kind of love I have to give." 🖤 We decided the shirt should have the proposed name for the new state Douglass Commonwealth, named after Frederick Douglass, the famous slavery abolitionist and supporter of women's suffrage who was born nearby and died in DC.  More recently I was contacted by Dr Brian McClure @bmcclure2 the director of the DC Council Office of Racial Equity for permission to use the mural on the front page of their website.  I believe the battle against DC statehood is rooted in anti-Black racism and I hope those of you that live in one of the 50 states that has representatives with voting power in Congress will support our right in DC to enjoy those same rights like every other Capital of democratic nations. #DCstatehood #DC51 #DCstatehoodnews #DC #DCstatehoodnow #dontmutedc #votingrights #statehoodforDC #WeAreDC #notaxationwithoutrepresentation #statehood @congresswomannorton Big thanks to the organizer for the huge project @NanceeLyons of @MuralsDC
