🦆Վարդինե Գրիգորյանն ու Անտոն Իվչենկոն կանդրադառնան ընտրական գործընթացների անցյալի և ներկայի մարտահրավերներին, Մարիամ Խալաթյանը կվերլուծի հակաժողովրդավարական նարատիվներն ու դրանց հետևանքները։ Տաթևիկ Ղազարյանը ընտրությունները կներկայացնի պատմական դիտանկյունից՝ անդրադառնալով ընտրության գաղափարի փիլիսոփայական շերտերին։

Meet our speakers!
This year, under the title “S/election/s”, the School of Complex Past approaches elections not as short-term and merely political processes, but as social and cultural spaces where power, narratives, and meanings are constantly negotiated and contested.
Vardine Grigoryan and Anton Ivchenko will address the past and present challenges of electoral processes, while Mariam Khalatyan will analyse anti-democratic narratives and their implications. Tatevik Ghazaryan will present elections from a historical perspective, reflecting on the philosophical layers of the idea of choice.
Expanding the broader and often less visible dimensions of electoral processes, Rafik Santrosyan will deconstruct the language of elections, their visual discourse, and presuppositions. Keeping gender-based issues consistently in focus, Edgar Zatikyan will discuss the manipulations surrounding them, while Tigran Amiryan will address these within the framework of conspiracy theories.

Ընտրական գործընթացները առաջ են բերում ժողովրդավարության վերաբերյալ հիմնարար հարցեր. ի՞նչ են դրանք բացահայտում, ո՞վ է ներկայացված, ու՞մ են «ընտրում», ո՞վ է մնում լուսանցքում։ Քաղաքական իրականության ձևավորումը բազմագիտակարգային հայացքից քննելով՝ ԲԱԴ 2026-ը նպատակ ունի հարցադրել ներկայացվածության ու քաղաքականի սահմանները։
Միավորելով դիտանկյուններ հումանիտար գիտություններից, մշակութային ուսումնասիրություններից, մեդիա շահարկումների և դավադրության տեսությունների հետազոտություններից՝ դպրոցը բացահայտում է քաղաքական գործընթացների ազդեցությունը հանրային ընկալումների, խոսույթի ու նարատիվների և այդպիսով՝ ընտրության վրա։

CSN Lab’s annual alternative education program, the School of Complex Past, returns with a new thematic focus: s/election/s.
The three-day alternative school will take place from May 29 to 31.
Applications are open until May 15.
Electoral processes bring into focus key questions about democracy: what do they reveal, who is represented, who is “chosen,” and who remains at the margins? Examining the construction of political reality through a multidisciplinary lens, the School of Complex Past 2026 aims to redefine the boundaries of representation and the political.
The three-day intensive school will offer:

Book Presentation
On Friday, 24 April, the Danish Cultural Institute and ICON× invite you to the official launch of Displaced Culture(s): Migration, Displacement, and the Shifting Cultural Landscape(s) of the Eastern Neighbourhood Countries.
The publication explores how recent waves of migration, forced displacement, and political transformation have reshaped cultural ecosystems across Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
Developed by the Independent Cultural Organisations Network | ICON× in collaboration with the Danish Cultural Institute | DCI, it brings together interdisciplinary perspectives from researchers and cultural practitioners.
The book is the result of long-term collaboration between cultural organisations from the Eastern Neighbourhood Countries (ENC) and Denmark. In a period marked by profound political, social, and humanitarian challenges, these organisations have worked together to strengthen cultural resilience and support democratic development across the region.

CSN Lab’s Blue Yerevan art-dock exhibition at D21 Kunstraum welcomed visitors to explore the hydronarratives of Yerevan through its water bodies, rivers, canals, and infrastructures. The exhibition is a part of the Leipzig Book Fair and the Yerevan-Leipzig Year of Culture, bringing alternative images of Yerevan into an international cultural context.
“Blue Yerevan” will be open until 29 March, offering an opportunity to explore Yerevan’s water heritage and its connection to broader international discussions on memory, environment and spatiality.

CSN Lab-ի «Կապույտ Երևան» ցուցադրությունը D21 Kunstraum-ի հյուրընկալ սրահում, ընդունելով բազմաթիվ այցելուների, ներկայացրեց Երևանի հիդրոնարատիվները՝ գետերի, լճերի, շատրվանների և քաղաքի կապույտ ենթակառուցվածքների շուրջ հյուսվող պատումները։ Դառնալով Լայպցիգի գրքի փառատոնի և Երևան-Լայպցիգ մշակութային տարվա մասը, ցուցադրությունը վեր հանեց Երևանի այլընտրանքային պատկերը միջազգային մշակութային համատեքստում։

“Address: Balat Orphanage“ is dedicated to the history of a place of care that served Istanbul’s Armenian community for nearly two centuries: the Khorenyan School and Orphanage in the neighbourhood of Balat, which closed its gates in the late 1970s.
As they trace the Khorenyan’s social and cultural memory, co-authors @l_oriental and @arsenique___ draw on oral history, spatial analysis and a treasure trove of archival material currently being digitised by @hrantdinkfoundation to reflect on the role of Armenian educational institutions before, during and after the Armenian Genocide.
Complementing editions in Eastern and Western Armenian (both with @csn_lab as publisher, 2026), this ninth instalment of con·stel·la·tions, the joint series by @exc2020 and @textem , constitutes a thoroughly revised exploration of the Khorenyan’s past for English-speaking readers.

WHAT LEAVES & WHAT LIVES Tracing the Multiple Pasts of an Armenian School in Istanbul
CSN Lab and D21 Kunstraum Leipzig warmly invite you to the book presentation and public talk of Address: Balat Orphanage as part of the Leipzig International Book Fair.
The event presents a collaboration between CSN Lab and the Cluster of Excellence Temporal Communities at Freie Universität Berlin, which led to the creation of two volumes, Address: Balat Orphanage and Berlin Dialogues, that bring together archival research and literature to explore the complexities of war, conflict and borders through the lenses of memory, migration and spatiality.
The event will feature a conversation with the authors, Tigran Amiryan and Arsen Abrahamyan (CSN Lab), moderated by co-editor Barbara Bausch (Freie Universität Berlin).
Address: Balat Orphanage emerges from CSN Lab’s long-term research on the archives of the Armenian Khorenyan School in Istanbul’s Balat district. The archives were digitised and categorised by the @hrantdinkfoundation forming the basis for an interdisciplinary study. The book traces nearly two centuries of transformations of the Khorenyan School and Orphanage, a place of care that played a pivotal role in Istanbul’s Armenian community and closed its doors in the late 1970s.
Spanning the late Ottoman Empire and early Turkish Republic, the archive reveals the intertwined histories of Armenian, Jewish, and Greek communities and documents the political and social shifts that shaped shared urban spaces and collective memory. By exploring the intertwined processes of forgetting and remembrance, the publication offers insight into a rich body of previously unpublished archival material documenting life before, during and after the Armenian Genocide.

BLUE YEREVAN travels to the Leipzig International Book Fair
CSN Lab and D21 Kunstraum Leipzig are pleased to invite you to the exhibition Blue Yerevan, presented as part of the Leipzig International Book Fair and the Year of Culture Yerevan - Leipzig.
Blue Yerevan explores the urban hydropoetics of Yerevan, its rivers and canals, lakes and reservoirs, fountains and pools that have shaped the city’s spatial imagination, collective memory and everyday life.
The exhibition presents the results of CSN Lab’s long-term interdisciplinary research on water bodies and water infrastructures. Through archival documents, oral histories, cartographic materials, photographic collections and artistic interventions, Blue Yerevan traces the transformation, marginalisation and disappearance of the city’s blue zones in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods. Offering a decolonial perspective on Yerevan, the exhibition creates a dialogue between two urban contexts and opens a shared conversation on water, memory and hydropoetics.

Balat book in Postane

We’re happy to share that CSN Lab’s research publication Balat: Living Together is now available at Postane Urban Hub in Istanbul.
The book explores the layered memory of Balat through a transdisciplinary approach, tracing the transformations of coexistence in one of the city’s most culturally and historically significant neighbourhoods.
Balat remains at the centre of our ongoing research, and we’ll be sharing exciting news soon.
A limited number of copies are available at Postane and can be obtained on-site.

For several weeks now, the “Blue Archives” exhibition has been welcoming hundreds of visitors. During this time, several tours guided by curators and contributors have also taken place, giving visitors an opportunity to get an in-depth understanding of the project’s conceptual framework and CSN Lab’s long-term interdisciplinary research.

——— CSN Lab’s “Blue Archives” exhibition opened its doors to hundreds of guests on February 12 at the Museum of Literature and Art.
Dedicated to Yerevan’s water heritage, the exhibition explores the city’s forgotten, vanished, and gentrified water bodies through the lenses of social and cultural memory.
At the opening event of “Blue Archives,” many partners from Armenian and international cultural organisations joined us, including the Yerevan History Museum, the National Archives of Armenia, and several other institutions that contributed significantly to the realisation of the project.
