CSEM and the Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) have created an #automatedsorting #organoid tech with a built-in microscope and #ai to determine the quality of retinal organoids. It even dispenses them into multi-well plates for screening applications.
👩🔬 This is particularly groundbreaking, as sorting organoids is typically a time-consuming and labor-intensive manual process.

🏠 We’re back home in #Switzerland to highlight H2020-ELENA, which aims to develop the first open access #photonics integrated circuit (PIC) foundry for lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) + its European industrial supply chain. LNOI-PICs can benefit a broad range of applications like quantum technologies, telecoms, lidar, and sensing.
🌐 CSEM is at the heart of this project, coordinating the consortium’s efforts and it's developing the wafer scale reliable fabrication process for LNOI PICS + the first process design kit (PDK) library of standard LNOI building blocks, which will be openly accessible to the photonics industry.

⚡ In ANDANTE, CSEM is developing intelligent systems using advanced AI techniques. By combining recent hardware and software developments, such as event-based cameras, neuromorphic inspired software and spiking neural networks (SNN) and benchmarking them with more conventional imagers and convolutional neural networks (CNN), CSEM will transfer the optimum technology to industry. In this, ANDANTE is pushing forward the field of smart, low-power, and autonomous edge processing devices and vision systems in Europe.

💃 Hola! from #Spain. Our EU project of the day is SBR – Smart Bone Regeneration. This project is seeking to revolutionize treatment options for patients with large bone defects, which often require multiple surgeries. SBR’s solution contains active 3D-printed implants customized to the patient, potentially allowing surgeons to rebuild lost bone with just one surgery.
🦴 This solution also includes printed biosensors that can monitor the bone repair processes and evolution of healing. CSEM is using its years of experience in wireless communication, ultra-low-power systems, printable electronics, and hybrid integration assembly of printed and Si-based electronics components to ensure the smartness of this sensor + the bone implant.
